The format favours high risk since you can drop 3/7 scores which gives the impression that the event is of low quality. I found the trick portion to be a bit boring and I feel it devalued the run portion which I feel should be given greater preference. I would prefer something like three runs and taking the combined score of the top 2.

Yeah, I imagine other African/Oceania nations have teams, but funding for a niche team sport is probably non-existent. Even for South Africa there was talk about them withdrawing due to lack of funds.

There was no African or Oceania Championships. Basically, FINA asked if anyone was interested and only South Africa and Australia said yes.

Yeah, false positives are still an issue. It may not be as bad as it was at the beginning of the pandemic (where almost 30% were false positives), but we could see a couple dozen athletes (especially if athletes are tested multiple times) getting a false positive. That's why a second test to confirm is important.

I'd wait for the next match against before making any predictions. If it's another struggle while Japan crushes Mexico then it might be Japan's gold to lose.

Not sure about, gold (have they played together in the past?), but on paper this is our best option for mixed doubles so it's great we get to see it.

Surprised rugby sevens finished last by a lot. I also thought athletics would be a bit higher, but the average American knows the sport as track & field so maybe there was some confusion.

The ITF isn't responsible for giving points, it's the ATP/WTA and last I heard (this was years ago) they refuse to give points until the IOC/ITF compensate the major tournaments held during the same week as the Olympics

I mean even a 500 level event (or that hybrid 1000/500 points they gave at prior Olympics) would be enough to encourage more people to stay. Really at this point there's no money and no points and Olympic gold isn't enough of a draw for what is essentially "working for free" for a week.
