  1. Canada would really appreciate if Hungary can come back and win against China. A small chance against Hungary is much better than no chance against the United States. That or we need to score an upset against the Netherlands
  2. The 800m freestyle is like having the 3000m event in athletics so if there has to be cuts, it will likely be the first to go. In terms of competitiveness (as in the number of nations competing) the 400m IM is the least competitive individual event and could also be at risk. The 4x200m relay is also quite uncompetitive and may be removed. At best FINA could combine it to make it a mixed relay (and unlike athletics have a set order for male/female athletes) As for the medley relay, FINA needs to decide whether to have separate genders or a mixed event. Personally, there's enough competition to have it split, but you can't have both.
  3. Another good thing is if one sport lags for a while then others can compensate. I'm not sure what to think of the men (outside of athletics). It's not like they have been completely off the map, they have several top 8 finishes and it can't be a coincidence that they are having an off period in almost all of the sports.
  4. Yeah, a lot is going on for Canada on Day 9 with medal chances in artistic gymnastics (women's vault), athletics (men's high jump, men's 100m), diving (women's 3m springboard), sailing (women's laser) and swimming (women's 4x100m medley relay). Hoping for a multi-medal day. This will be the best chance for the men to get on the medal board.
  5. This stems from Canada being good, but not great in many sports so while for other countries they pick up their medals from their strength, Canada's top performance distribution more resembles a bell curve with a peak at around fourth.
  6. A lot higher than you think given the population of the country
  7. Not always, the combined time of finals for Dressel/Jacoby was faster than Weitzeil/Andrew (though just barely)
  8. with another medal, will it be gold or silver?
  9. I guess the combined time for woman breast+man free was less than man breast+women free
  10. The difference is that there isn't a separate men's/women's relay in triathlon so at least it isn't as useless as the athletics/swimming relays. Regardless I don't think the event is necessary because you are essentially forcing standard race triathletes to compete in a sprint triathlon (though there's a lot of overlap)
  11. Hopefully they can put the loss behind them and go for bronze. Two medals in one Olympics for Fiji would be massive
  12. So close for Fiji, they are having the tournament of their life.
  13. Not really, the three combined are still behind Australia. With a 1:07.xx breast, the United States will pass us, but we are favoured for bronze and hold about a 1.5 second lead over the rest of the field.
  14. Too bad we don't have a top breaststroke swimmer, could have been a threat for gold...
  15. Awesome silver for Masse, crushed her national record
  16. I mean relays in any sport is essentially a test of a nation's depth so it makes sense that big nations medal.
  17. Looks like the Rugby 7s coach who made those comments has been fired.
  18. Based on the comments by some of the coaches/management there clearly is some tension between the women and the people who run the program. It might be time to clean house...
  19. Day 8 looks to be a quiet day for Canada, with a decent chance that Canada finishes the day without a medal, the first since the end of Day 1. Our best chance for a medal likely comes in swimming (women's 200m backstroke) while weightlifting (men's -96kg) and archery (men's individual) also have a chance.
  20. The NOCs with a smaller population than San Marino British Virgin Islands may make an attempt to claim that title in athletics so the title of world's smallest Olympic medaling nation may not last too long...
  21. It wasn't a good day for Canada, even against Brazil they were slow to start. Regardless we risk either being eliminated or playing New Zealand in the quarters.
  22. Canada looks to rebound in Day 7 with medal opportunities in athletics (men's 10000m), rowing (women's eight), swimming (women's 100m freestyle) and trampoline (women's individual).
  23. With a chance at reaching the semis. On paper isn't that much better than or that Cordon already defeated. Of course, Heo did come off a win against the number 1 ranked athlete plus he'll have more rest.
