  1. Looks like the Rugby 7s coach who made those comments has been fired.
  2. Based on the comments by some of the coaches/management there clearly is some tension between the women and the people who run the program. It might be time to clean house...
  3. Day 8 looks to be a quiet day for Canada, with a decent chance that Canada finishes the day without a medal, the first since the end of Day 1. Our best chance for a medal likely comes in swimming (women's 200m backstroke) while weightlifting (men's -96kg) and archery (men's individual) also have a chance.
  4. The NOCs with a smaller population than San Marino British Virgin Islands may make an attempt to claim that title in athletics so the title of world's smallest Olympic medaling nation may not last too long...
  5. It wasn't a good day for Canada, even against Brazil they were slow to start. Regardless we risk either being eliminated or playing New Zealand in the quarters.
  6. Canada looks to rebound in Day 7 with medal opportunities in athletics (men's 10000m), rowing (women's eight), swimming (women's 100m freestyle) and trampoline (women's individual).
  7. With a chance at reaching the semis. On paper isn't that much better than or that Cordon already defeated. Of course, Heo did come off a win against the number 1 ranked athlete plus he'll have more rest.
  8. Day 5 was a relatively quiet day which saw Canada still win one medal. Day 6 has medal chances in judo (men's -100kg), rowing (men's pair and women's pair) and swimming (women's 4x200m freestyle relay). I'd also keep an eye on fencing (women's team foil), France is definitely beatable and while any of the other semi-finalists would be a long-shot, having an opportunity for the upset could result in a shocking medal.
  9. Weird, they usually are on (relatively) good terms like in field hockey.
  10. Yeah, fans can be the worst sometimes and with social media all that hate comes right on your doorstep.
  11. I remember it was done by Om Yun-chol in 2012 where he won gold. He was already the favourite to medal/win back then so I imagine maybe it was done as an intimidation tactic?
  12. Outside of throwing more money at the problem I don't think OTP has the capabilities of fixing the problem. The way the organization is ran is that they incentivize easier to win medals. At best, they can mandate that funding must be equally spent on both genders.
  13. They are seeded based on their combined ranking. Both play singles with Sakkari never playing doubles in one of the four majors. Canada has more experience in doubles so the upset potential is there, but Greece could very well win based on their individual strength.
  14. Another issue is that Canada still heavily relies on universities to give their athletes competitive practice. Men tend to peak later in life and unless they are trying to get a masters/PhD degree they are no longer part of that system.
  15. While I do agree that taekwondo is one of the more diverse sports, they also increase it by making it very hard for more than 2 athletes per gender to qualify.
  16. After a big day yesterday, Day 5 looks to be a lot quieter. Our best chance likely comes in rowing (women's double sculls). Additionally, swimming has two more medal chances (women's 200m freestyle & women's 200m individual medley).
  17. Depending on how the IOC handles the extra quotas I imagine will see it in 2028. 2032 might have a chance with Australia unless they want to go with cricket (or netball, but there's no men's equivalent).
  18. Surfing is definitely a type of sport to watch through highlights than watching it live.
  19. Really happy for Duffy, it has been a long time coming
  20. We did go 2-0 against France in the individual matches so the chance is certainly there.
  21. Surfing is definitely "wait for the highlights" type of sport since for most of the time it's them waiting for a good wave.
  22. Skateboarding can stay, but it does need to revamp its format as I mentioned before. I'm more upset with how the IOC tricked World Skate into submitting skateboarding. They basically strongly hinted that if they took over as the international federation for skateboarding then they may also accept speed roller skating as well and then they went nope and only accepted skateboarding. Of course, that's not skateboarding's fault...
