  2. Men’s team finished 9th while Women’s team finished 13th . Both teams qualified for the knockout rounds as expected although disappointing individual performances except Dhiraj , who finished a fine 2nd in the ranking round. Ankit topped among the 3 girls , finishing on 31st but she missed one arrow completely! Hopefully we can fight for the team/ individual quota here.
  3. Removing men’s football for either Beach soccer or Futsal will be the right thing to do. Men’s football is effectively an U23 competition . Removing it will not only free up quota places but will also bring down the costs substantially. Futsal will be a great addition and highly entertaining too. Also with the increase popularity in the women’s game and professionalism it wont be long before it becomes an U23 competition too.
  4. 2 things , Firstly as you correctly perceive, In this hard financial times I would argue it is IOC who needs Cricket in olympic programme more than Cricket/ICC trying to get into the olympics, as Cricket is already an established sports with good financial backing. Secondly, the game which was quiet limited is now spreading to every corner. It has 115 member associations and counting, the T20 format is exciting and appealing to youths . I would argue it has a far better reach than say Handball/ water polo where the sport is limited to same few nations , where is the global appeal in those sports?? If you talk about quotas in olympics I personally feel there are way too many quotas in swimming but that is a different issue. Oh & finally! Am not a cricket fan , but I want Cricket in the olympics programme for it will revolutionise olympics sports broadcast and appeal to the general wider Indian audience. Perhaps it is the push that our sports needs to reach the next level in olympics and challenge the big boys of olympic sports!
  5. Has 🇮🇷 announced their football squad for the asian games ? Will they be taking 3 over aged players?
  6. You are ill informed or like you said you have very little knowledge about the game. Only the T20 format is being considered for inclusion. A match usually takes 2hr 30 mins to 3hrs which isn’t that long. These matches are almost always close ones and are highly entertaining. I can understand where you are coming from, as for me ICE-Hockey is boring and irrelevant, but that is mainly because I don’t follow the sport or have so little knowledge about the game. If Cricket does get included in the programme it will likely stay for Brisbane 2032 & possibly thereafter. I do agree, make it a 8-12 team tournament each gender rather than 5. How IOC does quota balancing or swapping is another thing. It looks increasingly likely weightlifting will give away . I hope not.
  7. Various news outlets in India are reporting the same. They expect Cricket (T20 version) to be in the programme for LA 2028 games. what more, if Cricket does get a spot in LA programme it will certainly be in Brisbane 2032 , with cricket being quite popular in Australia.
  8. Today world cup qualifying draw Round 1 & 2 for AFC was carried out, with matches starting from this OCT FIFA window. Round 1 is a knockout format while Round 2 is a Round-robin based, with top 2 from each group qualifying for Round 3 .
  9. They need to make the whole package attractive and meaningful, which at present it is not . CGF body needs to push back the games by a year and have it hosted a year ahead of the Olympic cycle (i.e 2027 ) That way some sports like athletics and swimming will add value as they will offer another event to achieve ESs/OQTs. Then get other sports federations to offer ranking points for sports like Badminton , TT etc Only then will these meaningless games will become meaningful and perhaps survive and have appeal beyond UK.
  10. Praveen Chitravel (Triple jump) finished 5th with a jump of 16.59m at Monaco Diamond league.
  11. I feel it wont be easy for The match against Won’t be easy. Group I looks the toughest as does Group A. & got very favourable draws. I think either Or will qualify for the expanded WC in 2026 for the first time in their history.
  12. Which isn’t a bad thing. Olympic games and continental games should be sufficient as multi sports events. Additionally, if you think if more quota places are made available in different sports from these continental games all NoCs are bound to take these games more seriously. This should be the way forward. Scrap the commonwealth games and focus more on continental games.
  13. There is a difference between Olympics and Commonwealth games. Olympics is more of a prestige issues , kind a soft power for powerful nations whereas Commonwealth games is.. well absolutely useless. They might as well do away with it. Olympics and continental games are sufficient!
  14. With Neeraj competing in Monaco Diamond league this Friday (21st). We should hit double digits , with one year of Olympics left. Looking good 😊
  15. The world championships will also offer Olympic quota places which makes team selections interesting.
  16. What a brilliant race in 1500m(M). Almost the entire field qualified for Paris Olympics, with a whole host of PBs and NRs.
  17. 2.33 seems awfully tough standard for High Jump (Men) . I guess most will qualify via world rankings than achieving the high Standard set by WA.
  18. Avinash Sable Clocks a SB time of 8:11:63 in 3000SC (men) to qualify for Paris olympics . He becomes 9th Indian athlete to qualify for Paris😀😀 He finished 6th in the race.
  19. Avinash Sable becomes the 9th Indian athlete to qualify for Paris Olympics. He achieved qualification at the Diamond league meet in Poland .
  20. Avinash Sable finishes 6th with a SB 8:11:63 qualifies for Paris Olympics
  21. What a race in 1500m (W) 10 athletes getting PB. 9 of them achieving the qualifying time standards. @EselTheDonkey Trost qualifying with a new PB. Together with the triathlon mixed team quota , good day for Deutschland
