  1. Sweden is taking both athletes, as confirmed on their Instagram accounts.
  2. Nope In fencing, no one really stands out to me. Speaking of judo, you just made me realize that I forgot about Peter Paltchik
  3. She’s the person before the cutoff??? I thought she was 4th alternate?
  4. Not happening as much as I would love for it to happen, no way 4 athletes (already excluding Lally) quotas get reallocated. Most reallocations are in events where there’s a chance of doubling up, and there’s no conflicts for any of these athletes.
  5. Dressage and eventing teams announced. https://www.instagram.com/p/C9DHFjVuanF/?igsh=MXR3Y3Z2ZWVqaWMyMw==
  6. Actually on further thought, I’d probably change it to Tokyo 2020, with the pandemic and everything. Lack of crowds and COVID 19 really sucked.
  7. Here’s some of the athletes/teams that I’ll be supporting… 90% of them are in athletics, swimming, volleyball, beach volleyball or tennis. men’s volleyball team (Bednorz, Kaczmarek, and Sliwka are my favourites, but I like them all) Anders Mol/Christian Sørum (beach volleyball) Duda Lisboa (beach volleyball, not a big fan of her partner Ana Patricia though) Mariafe Artacho del Solar (beach volleyball, don’t like Clancy…) Anastasija Samoilova/Tina Graudina (beach volleyball) Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler (beach volleyball) Michal Bryl/Bartosz Losiak (beach volleyball) Cherif Samba/Ahmed Tijan (beach volleyball) Tanja Huberli/Nina Brunner (beach volleyball) Timo Bol, Patrick Franziska (table tennis) Ma Long (table tennis) Caleb Dressel, Nic Fink, Ryan Murphy, Thomas Heilman (swimming) David Popovici (swimming) Sarah Sjostrom (swimming) Chad Le Clos (swimming) Lani Pallister (swimming) Florent Manaudou, Leon Marchand (swimming) Ruta Meilutye (swimming) Duncan Scott (swimming) Branislav Mitrovic and the entire Serbian men’s waterpolo team Marcos Moneta and Antoine Dupont (rugby sevens) Sonja Greinacher (3x3 basketball) men’s 3x3 basketball team Vincent Fauche, Franck Seguela (3x3 basketball) Worthy de Jong (3x3 basketball) Dejan Majstorovic (3x3 basketball) Stephen Curry (basketball), he plays for my Golden State Warriors Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Karsten Warholm (athletics) Kyron McMaster (athletics) Jakub Vadlejch (athletics Armand Duplantis (athletics) Thea Lafond (athletics) EJ Obiena (athletics) Lindon Victor (athletics) Kevin Mayer (athletics) Eluid Kipchoge (athletics) Anna Hall, Tara Davis, Parker Valby (athletics, for Valby it’s one reason and one reason only) Julien Alfred (athletics) Marie Josee Ta-Lou (athletics) Nicola Olyslagers (athletics) Alicia Schmidt (athletics, same reason as above) Nafi Thiam (athletics) Agate Caune (athletics) Miltiadis Tentoglou (athletics) Gabriel Medina, Joao Chianca (surfing) Erin Routliffe (tennis) PV Sindu (badminton) Viktor Axelsen (badminton) Agniezska Korneluk, Martya Lukasik (volleyball) Gyorgy Grozer (volleyball) Rok Mozic (volleyball) Honorato Henrique, Gabi Guimares, Ana Cristina, Flavio Gulaberto (volleyball) Daniele Lavia, Simone Giannelli (volleyball) Jean Patry, Trevor Clevenot (volleyball) Paula Badosa, Rafael Nadal (tennis) Emma Raducanu (tennis) Novak Djokovic (tennis) (RUS) Daniil Medvedev (tennis) Casper Ruud (tennis) Hubert Hurkacz (tennis) Dominic Thiem (tennis) Matteo Berrettini (tennis) and of course… the entire delegation
  8. Well actually, there’s so many that I can’t list them all off the top of my head…. If I do, by the time I’m actually finished listing them I’d probably age around 50 years
  9. Welcome to Totallympics! @Geert If you ever need anything or want to ask me a question, my messages are always open Hopefully we’ll be seeing you around during the Olympics
  10. 1. 7. First Olympics for me was Vancouver 2010 when I was 4 years old, my dad watched the gold medal match in men’s hockey and I watched it with him, obviously I wouldn’t remember anything from it as it was 14 years ago. First Olympics I actually remember watching was Sochi 2014. All three of those Olympics I only watched a few events at most. First time I full on started watching everything was back during Rio 2016. 2. Favourite was Vancouver 2010 (I’ve watched a LOT of replays since then, men’s hockey gold medal match is my main highlight, but there was a lot of good events), and least favourite was Beijing 2022, given it was a complete and utter flop from a Canadian perspective with only 4 gold medals (and two of them were lucky, even though Kingsbury got robbed in men’s moguls)
  11. Dutch Tournament, the last sitting volleyball tournament before the Paralympics started yesterday. Not sure if anyone is interested enough to watch it (I’d say I’m probably the biggest sitting volleyball fan on here by a mile ) but in case anyone wants to here’s a link for live streaming. https://youtube.com/@dutchtournament3998?si=x5H7A_ZJI7MXkaFe
  12. If we’re talking about weightlifting, surely Olivia Reeves will also be a pretty heavy gold medal favourite in women’s 71kg? That being said I’m not much of a weightlifting expert, so I could be completely wrong.
  13. has a team size of 315 athletes, not including potential reallocations in athletics. We add an athlete our Rio 2016 total, but are well down on the 381 athletes we sent to Tokyo, despite us having a much stronger team across the boards (IMO) in the majority of sports. Although with the decrease in quotas that was sort of to be expected. Overall, it’s been a pretty disappointing qualification period for Canada, lots of near misses (Kelly Fitzsimmons in modern pentathlon, men’s archery team at the Pan Am Games, women’s volleyball team, and men’s rugby sevens team at the North America Olympic Qualifier), and some of the favourites to qualify either didn’t or just barely did (Erin Brooks in surfing, women’s synchro 3m platform, women’s basketball team, men’s basketball team, women’s 3x3 team, men’s volleyball team, women’s waterpolo). Considering that Russia has been banned in most sports, makes our numbers even worse. As for sports in general, badminton, rowing, and to a lesser extent surfing have been disappointing, while fencing and to a lesser extent cycling and shooting have been pleasant surprises. Canada will making it’s Olympic debut in you know what (I refuse to say the name ), 3x3 basketball, surfing, and mixed team judo. We also won’t be present in modern pentathlon, field hockey, sport climbing, and rhythmic gymnastics. 15. Other than breaking, which I’ll probably only be watching during the medal rounds (but I might decide to skip it entirely), artistic swimming, golf, rhythmic gymnastics, and equestrian (dressage and eventing at least) Some events/sports I’ll only be watching the closing stages of, like modern pentathlon (shooting and laser run), and the end of the road race.
  16. Buddy Hield to the Golden State Warriors. https://www.instagram.com/p/C9ArFcdxIox/?igsh=MXc3eHFtd3J2Z3VxYw==
  17. defeating wasn’t that much of an upset to me IMO. See, I don’t really understand this logic. Teams play to win, not to lose. As a competitive athlete myself, that’s the way your mind works. Unless you’re one of the teams that were involved in the badminton fiasco at London 2012, and maybe there’s a few other cases too, but that’s besides the point. If Brazil had rested their best players for part of the game, it would make sense.
  18. @Fly_like_a_don events or sports? Because a lot of users are listing 5 sports, when it says events
  19. I’ll be watching pretty much everything, so that’s 14 hours most days. Sleep schedule will be completely screwed, with events happening from 12:00AM to 2:00PM (PST) but there’s nothing I can do about it so I’ll have to deal with it (edit: @heywoodu gave me a good idea to wake up an hour earlier to get schedules/snacks/meals ready) First few days is exception though, I’ll be skipping some of some of the surfing heats (since the Olympics is 24/7 for the first few days, I’ll use at least part of this time to sleep), but I’ll most likely be watching the semifinals and medal matches (maybe even the quarterfinals) Actually, no breaking for me (unsurprisingly) My 5 events that I’m most looking forward to (really hard to choose) Beach Volleyball - Women’s Tournament Volleyball - Men’s Tournament (and not the women’s tournament ) 3x3 Basketball - Women’s Tournament Athletics - Men’s Decathlon Swimming - Men’s 100m Butterfly
