  14. Based on the Olympic qualification ranking... one team. Women's foil. But it's still VERY early. I think you should be fine in men's foil and women's epee as well as long as you don't mess up at the World Championships. At this very moment the qualification ranking is a giant mess because we only had 1 World Cup event (2 in women's foil) and the continentals. African teams for example will fall behind once the continental points will matter less. Anyway, here are the teams that are currently in qualifying positions. This will change a lot after the World Champs. Men's epee - Women's epee - Men's foil - Women's foil - Men's sabre - Women's sabre - Women's foil seems reasonable as it already had two World Cup events. The other 5 are a mess. Italy will NOT fail to qualify their epee teams, that's not happening. France will NOT fail to qualify their men's epee team. The one thing that won't change is this: the US will qualify 5 teams this time.

  15. Because of this weird split ECh I was wondering how the actual Euros medal table looks like (individual events from Plovdiv and team events from Krakow) 5-5-6 5-4-3 1-2-1 1-0-0 0-1-0 0-0-4 0-0-1 0-0-1 0-0-1 0-0-1 So a very dominant Euros from Italy and France, they won 83% of the gold medals and 67% of the medals.

  20. UK Athletics manages to sink to a new low! Laura Zialor: Injured high jumper shocked by UK Athletics not paying for operation - BBC Sport OK so Zialor is unlikely to ever trouble an Olympic or a World podium, but she at least showed up to represent her country when asked and was injured on the job. UK athletics should have stepped up and paid for the operation rather than reducing her to begging for help from strangers. Is it any wonder we struggle to keep people involved in athletics when the national federation treats them like this.

  23. Baseball qualification system has been updated as @intoronto alluded to in the CAC Games thread. New version is available here: https://www.santiago2023.org/descargas/en/Baseball.pdf all fail to qualify, meaning we will have an entirely new podium in Santiago. also fails to qualify. The team sport lineups are looking weird this edition. It probably doesn’t help that many qualification events have been held separately from major competitions. PanamSports and continental federations might need to rethink the qualification systems moving forward.

  28. It's freaking quota for Ukraine, is it real? Our 4th pentathlete in team Oleksandr Tovkai created one of the biggest sensations securing ticket for Olympics to Ukraine finishing above Dalenbach and Grycz. If someone had told me that he would be qualified for the Olympics, I would have laughed - but today it is not a joke, well done, Sashko!

  30. Point differential count towards World Ranking points. There is a very complicated formula to determine how many points a winner gets. Kind of tournament, place on the ranking, differences in places, difference in points, and 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 all matter. This VNL counts more heavily than the OQT and Continentals.

Am I right in saying that the slalom canoe quota is awarded AFTER the world champs? So if the top five nations here also qualify at the world champs, then the 6th nation here gets the spot?

  35. both of our "famous" weightlifters are officially out of Paris. Kianoush Rostami acted like a jerk as usual and didn't participate in our preliminary trials. therefore the federation claims he is 100% out of the World Championships in Riyadh and therefore out of Paris 2024. he does these things all the time but looks like the new federation is not going to let him get a pass this time. and most importantly Sohrab Moradi announced retirement today after failing his first two attempts in the trials. probably that was when he finally realized his body simply can't handle it anymore. he could and should have another Olympic gold in Tokyo if it wasn't for that weird Qualification system. despite breaking the WR inside the qualification period he failed to quality. he had to participate in some events despite not being ready and re-injured himself few times in the process. (back and shoulder) he won all 3 big titles (Asian Games, World Champs and Olympics) but he could win much more. nobody will touch his 96kg World Record anytime soon. I doubt even 102kg guys can reach it in Paris. he was also a very nice guy (the exact opposite of Rostami)

  36. men's Sabre OQR after 1 world cup stage and the continental champs (always my quick calculation, possibly with mistakes) 1 116 2 100 3 96 4 92 5 89 6 88 7 86 8 70 8 70 10 60 10 60 12 54 13 53 14 51 15 49 16 48 17 43 tonight's GMM result could change a lot of placings at the top of the OQR, could be 3rd with a win, but they would drop to 7th with a loss; could climb up to 4th with a win, but they would drop to 8th with a loss. in any case, the top 8 would still be very, very close and the World Champs result would be extremely important, if not decisive, for the continuation of the qualification race.

  37. naaa, you're still in the race according to my very quick calculation (therefore subject to many mistakes), are still the best European team outside the top 4 overall, therefore you would be qualified right now the current women's Foil Olympic Qualification Ranking after 2 world cup stages and the continental champs (according to me, always keep in mind): 1 168 2 156 3 152 4 136 5 130 6 110 7 92 8 90 9 86 10 79 11 78 12 75 13 74 14 64 15 62 16 56 17 55 18 55 19 54 20 52 21 52 22 48 23 46 24 43
