  2. Olympic ranking qualification simulation as of October 31st... Jumping Group A - Group B - Group C - Groups D/E - Group F - Group G - Overall - Not much drama is happening here. Lebanon is close enough to Syria in the Group F to make a threat. South Korea may be able to catch up with Thailand in the Group G. Everyone else is pretty much fixed, even Luxembourg in the overall rankings.

Without most of their Track and Field stars, suffered the biggest drop here in the rankings, as well as in gold and total medals percentage. all had their best Games ever, and I think some other nations too: . had a huge increase in the total number of medals, but failed to win more gold medals, which is certainly a bit disappointing for a host nation. They lost a staggering number of direct finals (14 out of 17), which would certainly help them in the ranking (they also were 8th in 2019). Even with a drop in medals, achieved a better ranking compared to Lima, which I think is a first for a previous host? Record number of nations that medaled in a single edition with 34, thanks in part to six NOCs that managed to win at least one medal after none in Lima: . Three nations that had at least one medal in 2019 did not win any this time: .

  12. I still can't believe the story of cricket in Aghanistan. I think I mentioned before that the sport literally did not exist in the country until the Soviet invasion in 1979. The love for cricket was learned in refugee camps in Pakistan in the 1980s and 90s. The national team has only existed since 2001.

  13. I'm watching this AFG/AUS match on a Afghan TV (and they are showing commercials after every single stop ) Cricket is probably the thing that everybody in Afghanistan likes, even those Taliban Neanderthals. I think they already made history by winning 4 matches but I hope they continue their dream run today and even advance to the SF. people in that country suffered (and still suffering) enough, they deserved a bit of happiness at least.

  14. Yeah, but we didn't have Summer McIntosh in Tokyo (well, we did, but not prime Summer). We haven't had a double gold medal winner at the SOG since Donovan Bailey in 1996, let alone a mutli-gold medal winner.

  18. right now, instead, are not getting too many wickets (only 2) vs , but they're keeping the score of the Asian team very low (run rate below 5 after 30 overs) if don't raise their batting, it would be an easy chase for in the 2nd inning p.s. @hckošice I don't know if you're somehow following this event, but one of the best (if not the best) Australian bowler is named Adam Zampa

  19. the male Flagbearer will be Giovanni Pellielo for sure (I bet nobody will have the "huevos" to leave him out, now that he's personally earned the quota place for the team), I fear the female Flagbearer is more of a mistery (I think it won't be a shooter because of Pellielo, however) it can't be Caterina Banti nor a gymnast because of the schedule, too I'd say it might be up to Irma Testa and Antonella Palmisano (or maybe Simona Quadarella or a Fencer) p.s. personally, I'd really like to see Sinner and Egonu as Flagbearers, just to get half the people in this fuckin' Country completely mad

  20. The Asian Quota will go to the next team in that scenario. Most likely reaching the final will guarantee a team quota .

  22. CJ Stroud set the rookie single game passing yards record last night (470 yds, 5 TD) in 39-37 win over Tampa Bay. This game also featured the first successful field goal by non-kicker/punter since 2004. RB Dare Ogunbowale (ex-soccer player) kicked from 29 yards.

  23. Just like stated in post #1 it's hard to bet against bearer being anyone else than Iga Świątek - especially the tennis event will be played on clay.

  24. That was great from Iga! I would love her to continue improving her game on hard, cause this August/September part with losses to Pegula and Gauff (ugh....) then Kudermetova and Ostapenko were really all tough to take for a fan. It is just amazing how she bounced back and won Beijing and and now WTA Finals! Deserved YE #1, and now to attack AO title Ah yes, given that OG in Paris will be played on clay, it is great opportunity to add gold medal to already impressive trophy cabinet

  28. after the shameful controversy, took advantage of the situation and got a win that leaves dead last in the standings (for now) game #38, beat by 3 wickets posted a decent (but not unforgettable) 279/all out in 49.3 overs, then answered with 282/7 in 41.1 overs and won the match game details https://www.cricketworldcup.com/match/102778 Tomorrow, game #39 might be a decisive one with facing at 9.30 a.m. CET in Mumbai a win might put them really in contention with and for the 4th place, even if they have another really difficult task in the last game vs , meanwhile have to face and have to play their last match vs , teams with no more interests in the standings

  29. Results are in from Montelibretti and the South African eventing competitions from the weekend... Overall there are no big implications for the rankings, except in the Group F. Jessica George won the event in South Africa and now tops the Group F rankings, however South Africa will still have only one starter as Noor Slaoui did enough in Montelibretti to overtake Alexandra Munn on tie-break. Tough luck for Usman Khan who was in for the whole year, basically, but ends up as only the second reserve following an elimination in Montelibretti. History for Morocco as never before they had qualified in eventing. As there are no more events in Europe, these individual quotas are effectively confirmed now: Group A - Group B - Group C - @Vektor Group F - Group G - Overall -

For Miltiadis Tentoglou (athletics) Katerina Stefanidi (athletics) We usually choose people with Olympic success in the past, and the only other past gold medalists either carried the flag already (Petrounias, Korakaki), retired after Tokyo (Tsoulfa), or are competing the day after (Ntouskos).
