Men's Volleyball Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

I really like our draw. This time we really lucked out, when comparing the other groups. We "only" have to beat Brazil, i'll take that.

  • 3 weeks later...

Is it known which teams can play at the continental qualifiers?

Edit: No matter, I found the answer in the women's thread. :d Thanks.

Our minister has said, that Brazil have declined hosting the Olympic qualifier and that will are trying to get it. It would be a big plus for us, if we are at home against the brazilians.

Aparently, FIVB is asking $500K to host any of these tournaments. If so, then, there is no other word to call it but a fraud.

I'm hopping that the IOC will step in at some point to stop this madness. OQT should not be used in any maner to bring back money into IFs pocket.

Just as a comparison, I've had a look at the 2016 balance sheet of the Italian Basketball Federation on their website...it looks like they paid 2.5 million € to FIBA for a men's OQT ...according to the press, they had to offer at least 1.7 million in order to bid.

Lol I called China hosting our tournament on the women's thread, anyway it doesn't matter they will probably still end in last place.

I'm surprised the Netherlands host but they probably got encouraged by their wch performance.

FIVB again. Madness!!

Still nice Netherlands host the men's tournament, quite unfair the Dutch NEVOBO choose to bet on the men's team and not the women's.

Women's team will face Italy in Italy

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
