Athletics WA World Relays 2021

Recommended Posts

India had trained well for the competition but not allowed to board flight to Amsterdam to reach Poland due to covid cases in India! How bad is that?

Guys, I think there have been some confusion about the qualification system. I think IOC and WA wanted to make the qualification system a bit interesting. So they made 2 events from which can countries directly qualify.

1) First 8 relay from WCH 2019

2) Relay, that is placed in Top 8 at the 2021 World Relays and haven't qualified for Tokyo 2020 yet. This means if there is a team placed 9th during the World Relays, does not automatically qualify and has to wait for the world ranking.

3) The most unlike scenario is that all 8 teams would qualify from World Relay which would remain no team to qualify from the World Ranking.

4) So for example, if there are 2 teams placed in Top 8 that has not qualified for Tokyo 2020 yet, they will qualify through world relays and there will be only 6 remaining spots from the world ranking.

5) About :JAM 4x100 Men ..... They would have to be extremely unlucky. There would have to be 8 team which has not qualified from WCH 2019 and will qualify from world relay which would remain no spot for Jamaica team from world ranking. They are on a qualifying position and I doubt they would not qualify. I am a bit more sceptical about :TTO that is 14th in the ranking and not participating in the world relays will put them in trouble. :CAN in 9th place and :JAM in 11th place will most likely make it in my opinion even though they won't participate in world relays.

Like would be the case for a number of other countries. Sad, although of course expected. Hopefully they find some other way, surely India - Amsterdam - Poland is not the only option..

That was the only option it seems we are officially not going to the world relays due to no country giving a allowance.

Yeah that sucks :(

Can't really blame those countries of course, but that doesn't make it suck any less.

At this point the World Relays should just not be offering direct spots to the Olympics and all remaining spots should be decided by ranking.

But you can't change that now as plenty of countries have targeted this meet to qualify. They can argue that there hasn't been enough races available to improve their ranking.

And lets face it, relay rankings are not a great indicator at all

Well, we have many problems too, no one from "golden team" of women's 4x400m relay will not compete here due to less or more serious injuries, besides Hołub-Kowalik. In addition strong part of men's 4x400m relay, Jakub Krzewina, is out too as his body didn't recovered yet enough after being infected of covid almost two months ago.
