Hopefully Syria can pull it off here. They are most likely going to compete only in athletics and swimming if they fail here, what would be sad.

If they don't Syria will have a chance to get a tripartite quota along with Sri Lanka (provided that they applied). Though the sport has a lot of competition due to Oceania nations.

Turkmenistan did it!

Though, they came very close to losing quota in the last moment... Uzbekistani lifter was playing with fire... Had she bombed out, UAE would have qualified.

:JPN:IRQ:MAS:KGZ:SYR:IND:TKM qualify in men's weightlifting. Syria had a very successful day. Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka drop out of the qualification zone on the final day.

I'm confused about these points, but how many would UAE have had if Otakuziyeva missed that last attempt?

This is the points scale: 28, 25, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19... Only the previously unqualified nations take points.

In women's +75, UZB took 28, IND 25, MGL 23, UAE 22+21. UZB missing last attempt would give them 0. IND 28, MGL 25, UAE 23+22. That would put UAE ahead of TKM.

We would not be able to see Ms khadija ( the UAE weightlifter who said you do not need strength but only  your mind to be in the Olympics ) :cry:

strength does not come from physical capacity but from an indomitable will. - Gandhi

I think it's time to allow the top 15 women be eligible for individual quotas. We still have three continental qualifiers to go and we're already at less than seven and there's a good chance that only Azerbaijan's Boyanka Kostova will be eligible at the end.

I decided to see what it would look like if we expand the women's individual qualification to top 15. Currently 9 athletes and 6 new nations would be added to the five already listed. From the total five are from European nations; Azerbaijan (ranked 1), Georgia (13), Latvia (13), Norway (15) and Moldova (15). In Africa Nigeria (7, 14, 15) is pretty much guaranteed to qualify through the team rankings along with Cameroon (10) while Mauritius (15) will have a chance should they send a full team. In Oceania Samoa (10, 13) will be a heavy favourite. In Pan America both Canada (7) and Chile (14) should qualify as well.

So even expanding to the top 15 we have a chance at not filling the seven quotas.

Hope :SRI is a reallocated a spot. They have a young talent who almost become wprld youth champ a couple years ago. On their team is also a multiple time Commonwealth Games medalist and a gold medalist from Melbourne.

    • Tomorrow, instead of the traditional mixed relay, a completely new individual race format will be on stage: the socalled 3km knockout sprint, where 3 rounds (heats, semifinals and finals) will be contested to crown the winner   I'm very curious to see what happens, even if this kind of competition imho is completely against the spirit of long distance open water swimming    in other words, bring back the good old 25km races instead of these new fuckin' stupid formats!!!
