It's not surprising people tend to care about sport their country is succesfull at :p

Anyway, the sport is slowy dying :( Except for Portugal and Catalonia (and maybe San Juan), it's barely sruviving everywhere else and it's getting eatten by the poor man's ice hockey version - aka roller inline hockey.

That's my opinion as well :)

Though I think the sport will probably allways survive here, as it takes a big part on the several sport's rivalries between the three big football teams fans (some people really take those rivalries too much serious.... and they end up ruining the sports with their agressive behaviour ), probably one of the most important for fans after football itsell and Futsal.

Would you say that Futsal is a more popular sport than 'Hoquei' nowadays ?

I would say is very tight: hockey has the advantage of having the three big football teams playing on our national hockey league (futsal only has Sporting and Benfica), but due to the increased rivalry between Sporting and Benfica on this past years, Futsal has gained a lot of tv ratings ( http://desporto.sapo.pt/futsal/artigo/2015/06/15/futsal-sporting-benfica-em-futsal-com-audiencias-recorde  sorry they don't have english version ).

So my opinion is that Futsal is more popular during national leagues (specially the final phase), but hockey is still more popular on Euro/Worlds (because the only team sport we can actually win something )

Not anymore ...

Anyway, that seems tight indeed.

Yes, you're right, I almost forgot!  (fun thing to be a French remembering me of such fact )

Anyway, good luck for the Under-19 Euro's semi-final on football :)

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

    • What can you expect from a simple woman from Magadan? As long as she was just running around and not talking, it was okay, but since she became an head of the federation in Rus and started talking this nonsense, it turned out that she was empty-headed. On top of that, she's fat as a pig. Disgusting person inside and out.
    • Rather negative     Both towards Vollering and towards the coach, who has been making a mess of this for years now (like Tokyo). Vollering literally said "it was not good for me that Markus and Vos were still in the front towards the end"     One of the most well-known journalists (albeit a bit of a drama queen, but in this case, he's right): "Absurdly bad race by Vollering. Unbelievable."   An entire analysis titled "Vollering only thought of herself and threw away and almost certain Dutch medal": https://www.wielerflits.nl/nieuws/demi-vollering-dacht-alleen-aan-zichzelf-en-verspeelt-vrijwel-zekere-wk-medaille-voor-nederland/   Vollering: "They were all riding just to make me lose"   https://www.gelderlander.nl/video/productie/vollering-mij-laten-verliezen-wk-zurich-772648?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F   The 100th time Vollering shows she should simply not be in a team like this. It is always trouble, every single time. We need a team with like 6 Marianne Vos clones, she has the experience, she can read a race like absolutely nobody else in the world can and she plays her role, whether that's the team captain or working for someone else, without complaining and to the fullest extent.   Vollering is the exact opposite of Vos. Vollering rides for Team Vollering, which consists of Demi Vollering. No matter what.
    • What did Dutch press make out of it? It was one of the worst "teamworks" I have ever seen in cycling.
