FIG probably saw the refs did big mistakes

The thing is: FIG did nothing. The CAS is the entity responsible for changing the results and FIG merely had to accept their sheer incompetence being exposed. FIG was forced to change the results, and pushing for another change is just not wise at this point. There's nothing that can be done about Voinea's score since her coach did not challenge it when she had the opportunity after the score was displayed. Even the CAS final report released today mentioned this. If FIG had a choice, you can bet they would never have changed the results.

The gymnastics officiating wasn’t nearly as bad as the boxing officiating.

Also worth remembering that the (correct) :ROU gymnast would have won bronze on floor if they inquired the neutral deduction. Which her coaches didn’t do. So this whole mess could have been avoided.

Of course there is still something of a halo effect in the sport, but the code of points has gone a LONG way to making the gymnastics less arbitrarily subjective. Hoepfully the AI experiments can do something similar for Diving, which is better than it used to be, but still has an awful habit of giving Chinese divers 8.5s and 9's for moves objectively less tight than what earns other countries 7.0s and 7.5s, especially in synchro

It looks like Sabrina Voinea challenged Barbosu's medal at the Swiss Federal Court. Here we go again...

    • The Italian team has already achieved a better result than the Chinese team in 2022 at home. The Italian team has made enormous progress since 2023, when we were still losing to Korea and Poland. Of course, this is mainly due to naturalizations, but China did the same. It's one of the few sports that have made significant progress before these Olympics and this is how it should be in most disciplines at home games.
