Yeah, that is right.  It’s kind of forgotten, but when an international athlete changes country then the birth country has the right to insist on a four-year embargo from World & Olympic Championships*.  Nobody ever bothers with it anymore - except :CUB.

*But not DL etc.  Possibly Europeans, I don’t know.

These are the latest rules from World Athletics (updated in 2019)

Alternatively, an athlete may represent another Member with the approval
of World Athletics, which approval shall be conditional upon:

a. the athlete observing a waiting period of three years from the date
that the application for approval is made to World Athletics (during
which period the athlete must not represent any other Member in
National Representative Competition or compete in any Other
Relevant Competition);

and

b. the athlete demonstrating that as at the end of the waiting period:

i they are or will be aged twenty or over; and
ii they are or will be a Citizen of the Country or of the parent
Country of the Territory which the Member represents; and

iii they are or will have a genuine, close, credible and
established link to that Country or Territory (e.g., through
Residence there).

OK, I knew they had changed the rule to prevent Turkey, Bahrein etc signing up a whole teams of promising young Ethiopians & Kenyans.

Did not realise they had also abolished the birth nation rule though - as I say Cuba were the only Federation that had used it in about the last 15 years.

Hey, if anybody missed some Baltic athletics, today it's the grown ups turn to duke it out between each other.

The livestream is in less than 6 hours and tomorrow Day 2 of the competition will follow as well:

Some notable athletes starting today:

Discus Throw: Ieva Zarankaitė, Zinaida Sendriūtė, Sindija Bukša running 100m, Hans-Christian Hausenberg starting in pole vault as well as men's long jump, Liveta Jasiūnaitė, Lina Mūze and Madara Palameika in the Javelin Throw, Simas Bertašius in 1500m, Edis Matusevičius in Javelin Throw and Modesta Morauskaitė in 400m.

Tomorrow you'll be able to watch: Andrius Gudžius and Martin Kupper in the Discus Throw, Modesta Morauskaitė in 400m Hurdles, Adrijus Glebauskas in High Jump, Sindija Bukša in 200m.

A few notable names from all three countries are skipping this event due to starting in competitions abroad, some just chose to not participate on their own accord, still, this competition is always interesting even when I don't understand what the commentators are saying :d

If you’re in :ATA, it’s YouTube.

I think people from most countries can watch on YouTube. I definitely can ... (in Germany)

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.
