MHSN 3,347 Posted May 31, 2023 #51 Share Posted May 31, 2023 (edited) semifinal curse continues ... to me Salimi was the better guy but who cares anymore. I think this is the 5th World Championship semifinal defeat in a row 5 bronzes by 5 different athletes , all of them lost winnable matches Edited May 31, 2023 by MHSN iran2016, Josh and phelps

Braulio 111 Posted June 1, 2023 #53 Share Posted June 1, 2023 After having an historic Worlds last year (at home) Mexico's showing at this worlds is maybe one of the worst ever Most of the big guns including two world champions couldn't even get pass Round 1! Only one mexican have reached the Round of 16 The only hope of a medal will be Carlos Sansores, current world champion What happened in such a short amount of time? bad planification? not peaking in the right time? maybe our medalist from last year worlds were still 'celebrating' their medals? lack of motivation? who knows

This year seems to be more in line with previous years and let’s say predictions. For me really not surprising that Souza and in particular Soltero could not repeat their results. Sansores will do better, but I guess 1/4 finals is the end.

merlinsbeard 21 Posted June 1, 2023 #56 Share Posted June 1, 2023 2 golds I am very happy for Nafia, who was a chronic bronze medalist. Great success, although her running out of mat many times were quite irritating. I believe Hakan has superstar potential. I hope he soon stabilizes in the olympic weight. Braulio 111 Posted June 2, 2023 #59 Share Posted June 2, 2023 Finally, a medal for Mexico with Carlos Navarro, now a two time world bronze medalist and 5th place in Rio 2016 Carlos Sansores have had consistent results this season so a medal from him can be expected but given how things have gone I am not very confident For Soltero and Souza, the result at this worlds (and season) will hurt a lot their hopes of getting an olympic quota via ranking BUT I'd rather think that if they were going to have a bad time after a great success, better this year and not the olympic one
