  1. My moments since I began watching the Olympics, for Mexico, not that we win a lot of medals but at least since Sydney the haul is more 'decent' than before that edition. - Mexican Soccer Team in London taking the gold unexpectedly, first and probably most important achievement for this sport like ever - Soraya Jimenez weightlifting gold medal in Sydney, first for a mexican woman ever - Maria Espinoza and Guillermo Perez taking gold medals in taekwondo at Beijing 2008 - Aida Roman & Mariana Avitia Silver & Bronze in Women's Archery in London 2012, first time 2 mexican women stood on the same podium - And maybe an infamous moment, Sydney 2000 Men's 20 km walk, Mexico wining gold and bronze, Bernardo Segura wining, celebrating, but getting DQ and notified while he was having a call on national tv covering the games with the then selected as Mexico's next president
  2. Great result for the new pairing in the men's 3m synchro, now Osmar Olvera with Juan Celaya who placed 4th in Tokyo at this event. But now a big controversy is coming about the situation of who will be competing in Paris with Osmar? the organising body that rules aquatic sports in Mexico already announced that Osmar & Rodrigo Diego were the selected divers for the Olympics in the synchro event, BUT given Rodrigo slowly but steady going downhill with bad competitions and a bit of a mental struggle state in the last months, now they decided to change and give a try with Juan Celaya. This pairing with Celaya makes their debut and what a result, a big 420 points total and lots of improvement in the synchronised part of course. What will happen? kick out Rodrigo? but they already selected him, now how they tell him sorry but no, we take back. Rodrigo could challenge this of course but in al fairness if he is struggling he could sacrifice his spot and let Celaya take the better opportunity. I dont want a scandal with this situation to affect mexican aspirations on this event at Paris, for me the 3m synchro is the biggest chance to get a medal among with Osmar individually wining at least the bronze.
  3. I thought that this time no mexican fencer would be at the Games but thanks to Gibran Zea we will have representation.
  4. I hope Nasar wins the Gold and the doper Lopez doesn't make to the podium in Paris
  5. Two posibilities for getting it but still Guatemala takes the quota Don't know what to say
  6. And another Bronze Medal for Mexico, Gabriela Agundez and Alejandra Orozco took bronze in the 10m Synchro. They keep the good results, no lower than 4th place at major competitions. Though I will keep an eye out for the North Koreans in Paris who will be a threat for a medal given the spectacular show they gave in Doha wining silver and the olympic quota with dives almost chinese caliber.
  7. No, it is official. Only the Men 3m individual will be decided at the 'Olympic trial' later I think in June I didn't know about a posible reallocated quota for the women's 3m event.
  8. For the reputation yes, GBR have Jack Laugher who has all the medals to show, but the other guy is not that consistent and Laugher is now not that consistent as before. Yes, Mexico has the weak link with Rodrigo Diego, but if you put the Degree of dificulty program mexican and brits have the same start value In Doha Mexico was 4th just shy of a silver medal and in front of the brits, and here with clear errors from Diego they were 1 point behind GBR Maybe Mexico is not the front runner behind China but is not that far from GBR and like I said IF (and is a big IF) Rodrigo has the competition of his life I can give the edge for the mexican pair in Paris. Though everything can happen! let's remember who won silver and bronze in Doha with a less difficult program: Italy and SPAIN!! @mrv86 I think Rodrigo and Kevin should focus only in the synchro events, right now they don't have any chance of a medal, the best scenario with them is an olympic final. But remember the Mexican diving team for Paris is already decided in all events but the Men 3m Individual where Diego, Celaya, Ocampo will fight for that spot.
  9. Mexico Well we have Alan Cleland qualified, hoping for a second surfer at this Games was maybe too much right now
  10. Rodrigo Diego execution once again costs Mexico a better placement, it is very disappointing that he has the quality and talent but still lacks confidence and that killer instinct that Osmar shows. Hoping he somehow finds that consistency and mental strength in Paris, with a consistent and clean, not even perfect, competition Mexico is maybe the Silver medal favourite at the Games in 3m Synchro.
  11. If only Gaby Agundez didn't missed her individual dive, that cost the gold medal Anyway good start for the team, this and the 5th place in the women's 1m springboard will give momentum for the rest of the competition and boost chances of getting all the quotas still needed to qualify a full team to Paris
  12. Mexico with 41 Golds and just two away of surpassing the All time best gold medal haul including home Games that is 42 That will come once Pelote Basque gives the gold medal rain on saturday/sunday
  13. A day of all finals in Judo & Tennis and Baseball Mexico getting to two finals in Judo, hoping we can get at least one gold so we could continue the golden medal trend of getting at least one each day thus far Brazil will start their rise in the medal table with plenty of opportunities to get gold medals, today could be their golden day like Canada had on thursday
  14. I forgot the Keirin had yet to come! Colombia took their third gold of the session and could win one more! well they established once again as the Panamerican Power Nation Mexico got an unexpected bronze medal, so we'll take it for the medal tally Good day for colombian athletes, taking 3 (and counting) golds in track and 2 in boxing, schedule will favour them much more in the second week
  15. Thanks I live in the northwest zone of the country very far from where everything happened, so sad the disaster
  16. Good day for Mexico with 4 golds, dominating the Modern Pentathlon taking all the golds available (5) Though Track Cycling perfomance was good, but given the results at Panamerican Championships earlier this year there were expected a couple of gold medals more than the two we currently have and most likely get Still with 5 Silvers its a good message that this sport is doing their job and that is more to come for this generation of track cycling Colombia taking 2 golds and with Canada most likely will share the top of the medal standing in track cycling Oh there is the Men's Madison yet to race, so one more shot for Mexico of that third gold (and fifth today) Canada vs Mexico fighting for the second place in the medal standings, though Brazil is coming strong slowly but steady taking golds in boxing, qualifying to tennis finals and of course surfing, judo to come later
  17. Brazil is now what Cuba used to be in Boxing Cuba with only 3 finals, will hurt a lot their chances for going up in the standings but Cuba could get a boost when wrestling, judo and athletics start Mexico with 2 finals, impressive! and two olympic spots.
  18. Another dramatic Final in Diving with Mexico taking both golds, the upset was the 3m synchro for the women because Canada was the real favourite but they failed a dive and could not close the deficit, Mexico with a steady performance was able to hold on to their consistent dives (not spectacular) and took the gold. In Men's 10m Platftorm Mexico was the clear front runner for 1-2 BUT our canadian fellows gave 'em hard time with big dives including a 101 points dive from Zombor Murray, unfortunately the canadian didn't have the degree of dificulty program high enough and with some tiny errors he could not hold on to the lead and the big program in DD of Randal Willars who prevailed in the end and took gold by 3 points even though he failed not once, but twice!! still the huge degree of difficulty helped him. Kenny Zamudio of Mexico took the bronze thanks again to a similar program like Willars and knocked off the podium the other canadian to fourth place. In the end 8 golds in Diving. Taekwondo and Diving gave 14 of the 26 golds already won, things from now on wont be the same in terms of gold medals but still I think 11 more golds could be achieved. Raquetball wont help that much this time, today we lost the men's team semifinal. And Mexico with 2 wins in Boxing advancing to the semifinals!!! can't remember when was the last time that happened? maybe 2011 in Guadalajara.
  19. Mexico is doing very well but Taekwondo is already over and Diving is coming to the final day, these two sports have delivered most of the golds. But still, it is a great result that many other sports are doing their duty with the gold medal haul, maybe not dominating like taekwondo and diving, but surely giving golds. here and there. Special mention to Raquetball that has been a great contribution in other Games but this edition will be a modest gold tally, with maybe 4 of the 7 availabe, when in past editions Mexico sweep them all. 22 golds already and the goal of surpassing the 37 from 2019 is within reach. 37 Golds in one edition is the most ever for Mexico in Panamerican Games history. There could be more golds in Diving, Track Cycling, Rowing, Archery, Modern Pentathlon, Triathlon and specially Pelota Vasca that traditionally gives Mexico many golds. Athletics could deliver maybe a couple of gold medals.
  22. How? Mexico already had 2 quotas for this event earned at Worlds Brazil gets the Panam quota available
