On one hand, I could see it as a "Look how far we've come as a species!" sort of thing.  On the other hand, I doubt the IOC, and Germany specifically, want to focus so much on "Hey, we're not the Nazis anymore!"

naaa...

I'm pretty sure that Germany 2036 would quickly become a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the greatest Games of the last 100 years, Berlin 1936...:yikes:

they would even ask Leni Riefensthal's heirs to film the official movie...:hairpull:

Sad the IOC is relegated on settling on cities like Brisbane. Good for then however for being proactive about it and getting the IOC to commit.

I actually think it's good for the IOC to show that they will accept a good bid from a "secondary" city.

Brisbane is going to host great games, who cares that they aren't a major world city?

Australia, Canada and Spain are my favorite countries for Olympic hosts. But i dont agree with the process that IOC folloed, to award it without voting. I think it is undemocratic.

Agreed. I think the Brisbane bid is great, and that they will host great Olympics, but this new bidding process lacks transparency and is rife for corruption.

What I am trying to say is they accepted a bid that was proactive and wooed the IOC. This opens a can of worms moving forward where the corruption will be hidden imo

Ya, my big worry is that corruption is going to be off the charts going forward.

Exactly.  A few years back they said they would not look at bids from second-string cities, they only wanted big global mega cities.  Well, how's that working out?

The IOC's (NBC's?) insistence that the Olympics not take place outside the northern hemisphere summer (like Sydney 2000) means that Brisbane is the only city large enough and warm enough at that time of year to host the games. Not allowing second tier cities would eliminate Australia from hosting entirely.

We haven't opened a specific thread yet, but Madrid has announced today that the city will bid (again) for the 2036 Summer Olympics.

Blanco, from Teruel, gave some clues as to where the Games could go without the obligation to concentrate everything in the city. “Madrid could make extraordinary Games building just one Olympic Village.

We do not have an Olympic pool: Sant Jordi (Barcelona).

We do not have a velodrome: Valencia or Palma de Mallorca.

We do not have rowing and canoeing: Seville or La Seo.

This is how it is now proposed: minimal investments to organize the Games ”, he pointed out. Interconnection through high-speed lines would mitigate dispersion.
