Thomas Bach is a butt of jokes for a long while already - on this board as well. I wouldn't pay much attention to all this scripted PR talk whatsoever.

Nothing scripted about it.

Like him or not, that’s up to you.

But this is the reality of a crowded list of interested parties from around the world to hosting the Olympic Games in 2036.

The IOC is triumphant.

Why do you think that Doha 2032 never progressed past the Dialogue stage?

It is a safety issue for the athletes.  It is a bloody oven in Doha,  and the IOC will not countenance athletes, officials and spectators dropping like flies with heat stress.

You cannot hold the many outdoor Olympic events like the Marathon, Triathlon, Road Cycling, etc in a Doha in an air conditioned stadium.

And they were right to take care of the athletes! Anyone who is an active runner knows that it's a lot harder to do in the heat.

Well, Bach probably won't be in charge of IOC by the time some of these "interested parties" fall off the list. He risks nothing by sending out a list like that. IOC has been long ridiculed as corrupt organization so every bit of positive PR helps. And Australia is one country that will heap praise for IOC after being awarded the SOG in Brisbane. I can understand where you come from.

I put that list together myself, right here at home.

Bach nor the IOC has never released such a list on 2036 interest in hosting.

I am a long time Olympic Games fan for all Olympic Games.

I’ve been to Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 where I worked as the volunteer team leader at the triathlon turning point, on the field of play for media access at the cycling road finish line and time trial.

I put the list together by googling the many media reports with the links of interested parties, cities and countries who have stated publicly they are interested in Hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.  I may not even have captured all the interest.

I post on many different editions of the Olympic Games around the world, Summer and Winter, across several Olympics blogs including Totallympics, Gamesbids and Skyscrapercity.

Qatar is hosting WC. Emirs are buying Football clubs. I am sure that if they throw enough money at IOC, they can get Olympics as well. In fact IOC will showcase it as an important step in fight for human rights.

Incorrect.

Again, those Championships were well outside the July/August Games hosting dates required now by the International Olympic Committee.

Due to the hot climate in September/October, there were no morning sessions at the 2019 World Athletics Championships and events were held in the late afternoon onward. Long-distance road events were scheduled to start around midnight local time.

This is not possible in July/August when the IOC now require the Games to be held.

Not being able to the Games in July/August because of the hotter weather was a dealbreaker is one of the main reasons why the Doha 2032 candidature was not elevated to the Targeted Dialogue phase.

Incorrect.

The World Cup 2022 is happening in Qatar in air conditioned stadiums November and December.

There are no outside events at the World Cup like in the Olympics

The Olympic Games are required by the IOC to only be held only in July and August.

An Olympics in July/August in Doha, which would see outdoor event athletes die if they competed day or night in that extreme, dangerous heat.

Spectators and officials at outside events would die too in that oven-like heat, no exaggeration.

That is why an Olympic Games in Doha is not going to happen - period.

    • the basic is the same but with different tricks, different strategy etc. it's a mixture of frestyle and Greco because you can't dive for a single leg attack.    I'm surprised to see ~20 wrestlers in each weight. hopefully that doesn't tempt UWW or IOC to try this in major events. as a wrestling fan I find this very unwatchable !
