Madrid. Two years ago the miracle happened!

Athletic Bilbao is a nice team too. So both.

I thought "Hmm maybe he is exaggerating, let me check"...this is the 5th consecutive year

Weird indeed.

I'm too sleepy for it, but in a magical world where the draw is indeed completely fair, how big would the chance (in %) be of this happening 5 consecutive times?

6.1%, not likely, but still possible I guess.

Haven't been into football lately, but it is unusual to see no Italian club in quarterfinal stage, either Champions League or Europa League...

It is unusual but at the same time it's not :d I mean it's not unexpected, Italian club football is pretty weak lately. Spain is dominating, and also in Europe League teams from eastern Europe had success lately

How did you calculate?

4/7 for Bayern/Barca/Real not playing against each other and then 4/7*4/7*4/7*4/7*4/7?

The formula would be...

(8/8*6/7*4/6)^5

Hasn't anyone noticed how Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern make the quarterfinals every year and they NEVER draw each other in this phase? lol, suspicious at the very least.

I agree, its also funny that Chelsea, PSG and City often play against each other or against Barca, as if UEFA doesnt want them to go far. On the other hand UEFA did a bad job protecting Barca/Bayern by drawing them against Atletico/Juve. There wouldve been many easier opponents for Bayern in the round of last 16. Its funny that Bayern had to eliminate the strongest team in the round of last 16 (Juve) and now Barca has to eliminate the strongest team in the quarterfinal (Atletico), as if they planned it before, so that every big club has almost the same chances. I think UEFA would always like to have a semifinal with Bayern, Barca, Real and City/Chelsea/PSG.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
