The Games will happen with or without the approval of the japanese people. They should have thought of this 10 years ago, or whenever they got the Games. If they indeed pull a cancelation stunt, Japan should be forbidden to host any major events for the next 70 years and will have to live with their failures.  Oh right, they can't, because suicides will always be bigger, than any Covid there...

The people of Japan have agree to host the Olympics under normal circumstances. Not during a worldwide pandemic. Or the worst worldwide disaster/event humanity has faced since the second world war. With the way things are going, it looks like IOC should have accepted a long time ago that this event (and maybe Winter 2022) is a lost cause and started preparing for 2024.

Or not. Holding Games at any cost would make IOC look really bad. It could spell the end of the Olympics (let's not forget they had their problems long before any of this started).

but this is already the last edition of the Summer Olympics...:yikes:

or do you dare to still name "Olympic" that farce in 2024 with breakdance, canoe extreme, the 35km team race walk and all the other "artistic", urban and youth sh*t they enforced instead of throwing it out... :bones:

so, how could the ioc reputation be worse than what already is? :pope:

One, interesting thing comes to my mind. We can see that Middle East countries and Qatar especially somehow save some summer sports and Olympic qualifications for now. They hold part of tennis Australian Open qualifications, one of judo masters, will hold table tennis Asian qualifications etc. Maybe Olympic Games should be moved to Qatar from Japan if Japanese people fear coronavirus so much? Pandemic is under control in Qatar, they have many moneys, couple sport venues, good base of hotels. What do you think about this?

I had a reflection like you, but in China or Australia since they have the infrascturctures of the old Olympic games

Yes, they have experience and venues but Australia fear coronavirus even more than Japan and China doesn't allow any foreign people to enter to their country by long time, it seems impossible by now that any of these countries could hold Games. Same about Brazil, USA and Great Britain where virus isn't under control.

This is such a poor take, and that “joke” at the end is in extremely poor taste.

I get being upset about new inclusions, especially when some of them are questionable, but throwing away the prestige of the entire Games over a few events is ridiculous.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
