15 athletes who wouldn't be big medal favorites will not be in Tokyo. At the Dutch NOC they must be partying hard tonight :cheer:

Wasn't it really necessary to have such a complicated baseball format that pushed softball to start before the games? They both could have been a six team round robin...

At least softball can have some time in the sun with no competition outside of football.

and, given the start times of the softball and football matches, they're also not at the same time (softball matches are at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. local time; football doesn't start before 4.30 p.m. local time)...

by the way, today's decisive match between ITA and GBR has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. CET as the last match of the tournament (and not at noon CET, as previously determined by the organizers...sometimes it helps having the world federation's president being from 1 of the 2 Countries involved in the key matchup :lol:)...

p.s. I discovered that the entire tv/streaming production is made by an Italian service (after explicit request by the WBSC president, Riccardo Fraccari)...if it was for the Dutch TV, no pictures from this tournament would have been available (so, why they always award this kind of tournaments to the Dutch federation?)...

How do you mean "always award this kind of tournaments to the Dutch federation"? Last softball Olympic qualifier in 2007 was in Italy, and the baseball qualifier is in Italy as well ...

I don't think the president has anything to do with it. It only makes sense to finish the tournament with a decisive match. :p

    • Hope so (for my adopted country, Norway, that is). Torino 2006 was the first Winter Olympics I followed closely and it was nothing short of a disaster for Norway. Strangely enough, that was actually the reason I became an avid fan of Norwegian winter sports and have been ever since. As for my actual home country, Greece, a medal for Ginnis in slalom (alpine skiing) would be a miracle.
