I think that "pairs"can be a new category. All mixed teams are "pairs", couple of skating, mixed curling, some sailing classes. Not all pairs are mixed, of course. But a pair is not a team, and is not an individual.

I have added the best Doubles/Pair category. Some contenders include:

:AUS Matthew Ebden/Max Purcell (Tennis)

:AUS Thanasi Kokkinakis/Nick Kyrgios (Tennis)

:BRA Duda/Ana Patrícia (Beach Volleyball)

:CHN Chen Yuxi/Quan Hongchan (Diving)

:CHN Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan (Badminton)

:CHN Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong (Badminton)

:CHN Sui Wenjing/Han Cong (Figure Skating)

:CHN Xu Shixiao/Sun Mengya (Canoeing)

:CZE Barbora Krejčíková/Kateřina Siniaková (Tennis)

:FRA Caroline Garcia/Kristina Mladenovic (Tennis)

:FRA Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron (Figure Skating)

:FRA Hugo Boucheron/Matthieu Androdias (Rowing)

:GER Francesco Friedrich/Thorsten Margis (Bobsleigh)

:GER Laura Nolte/Deborah Levi (Bobsleigh)

:GER Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (Luge)

:GBR Alfie Hewett/Gordon Reid (Wheelchair Tennis

:HUN Bence Nádas/Bálint Kopasz (Canoeing)

:ITA Stefania Constantini/Amos Mosaner (Curling)

:MAS Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik (Badminton)

I can think of one other very worthy candidate in rowing too ;)

:IRL O’Donovan / McCarthy who just happen to be unbeaten since 2019!

Question - are professional boxers and rugby players who only play 15 player rugby eligible for the non-Olympic award?

For rugby players, yes (non-Olympic). For boxers it's a little tricky since professionals can compete at the Olympics, even though most of them won't. Since it's allowed, I think they should be up for the main category.

actually, the best pro boxers can't take part into the Olympics, so if someone wants to name people like Usik or Fury or Canelo and all the giants of the sport, it shouldn't happen in the Olympic categories...just my 2 cents.

Why are the best not allowed to try and qualify for the Olympics?

if I remember well, the boxers must have a limited number of pro fights under their belt to enter the Olympic pathway.

I'm sure it was between 10 and 15 max (with no title fights) when they opened to the pros in 2016, but tbh I don't know if the limitation is still in place or it's been removed. :mumble:

I don't know much about the Boxing situation, but if an athlete can't compete at the Olympics, he can be considered for the non-Olympic category. This also should include athletes that exclusively compete in events that aren't part of the Olympic programme, like those who can compete only at the World Games etc.

So if i want to nominate someone like Kliment Kolesnikov, i should do it in the non-olympic category?

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Similar question - baseball players who play in the US major leagues? Olympic or non-Olympic?

    • Non-Olympic Athlete, Moment of the Year and Olympic Spirit Award are the ones lacking the most. Paralympic Athlete and Breakthrough also don't have a lot of votes.
    • Do you have or have you ever had an modern ice track?
    • Still no progress in the Italian team: 2x 4th place in men's singles and women's doubles+ a fall in the team relay. Men's doubles and women's singles without any progress for years. What's worse, our women's doubles also significantly lowered their level: without a single podium in the World Cup in this season. As of today, I'm betting on 0 medals in Cortina for us, excluding some miracles on the home track.
    • There is some progress at Barp and Carollo but almost everything is still based on Pellegrino. In the men's we lost a great talent - de Fabiani and Davide Graz - they are at an age where we have a generation gap in these age groups: 1994-2000. In the women's I`m happy with Monsorno's progress in sprints but the last podium WC in the women's category was in... 2011. We wasted 15 years in the women's category and now we are only waking up with 1 year to go until the games in Cortina, when we should have a ready team like Germany (I will skip Scandinavia because of its completely different potential).
    • Italy doesn't exist in women's technical competitions without from Brignone and Goggia - both over 30 age. Unfortunately Bassino has been out of good shipe since from last season in the giant slalom and she is unrecognizable in some competitions. In the case of Goggia I also don't really believe in regular podiums in the giant slalom - she can't have falls and win in the downhill and super-G. The giant slalom is just a bonus.   The Italian women's slalom has basically been non-existent for many years. One Peterlini qualifies for the 30 and doesn't finish half of the competitions. I can't understand how it was possible to lose Colturi in a situation where other Italians have fallen so badly. Unfortunately it's not the Italian federation that should be setting the conditions here but it's Colturi and her mother - a talent on par with Shiffrin at her age.
    • In relay yes, but we have 8 more from our legend Natalya Yakushenko back in 2008 and earlier
