Artistic Gymnastics FIG World Championships 2022

Recommended Posts

Should just say that although Brazil lost a lot of points against qualification on the balance beam, when you adjust to take into account the athletes who participated in the final, they actually improved their score by 0.1 point and not many of the teams have so far been able to improve their score on any of the apparatus.

In rotation 3

On the Balance Beam both teams carried a fall resulting in USA dropping 0.667 against qualification whilst GBR were able to advance 0.334

On the Floor, BRA shed 2.501 points against qualification with ITA dropping by 1.866

On Vault, JPN have picked up 0.567 whilst CHN are up 0.366

Finally on Uneven Bars, FRA have fallen back by 1.634 whilst CAN dropped 0.166

So by my calculations, if each team matches the score from qualification for their final rotation, USA would win with a 166. GBR would take silver on 162.5. The all important bronze and final Olympic quota would go to JPN on 161.5.

Canada squeezed into the final by just 0.3 points and look set to walk away with a medal and an Olympic quota spot

Great 4th place (best ever) for Brazil despite having an athlete that really isn't world level. @thiago_simoes will Flávia compete in AA?

No chance at all. I strongly believe she will also not compete on floor.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
