it looks that the Dutch born spiker Dick Kooy could play for Italy in the next future...

he got married with an Italian woman and now he just completed all the burocratic tasks to get the Italian citizenship...

he also said he would be happy to be part of the Italian team (he's currently playing in Russia, but he did play already in the Italian league -in Modena and Macerata, to be precise- for a few years between 2009 and 2013)...

That's almost three years old, I wonder what the 'new news' is? :p

March 2016:

It says Kooy won't play for the Dutch team anymore and he asked for an Italian passport to make it easier to compete in the Italian competition. Already in 2016 he was married with an Italian woman and had a house in Milan, which at that time he said is where he wanted to settle permanently.

3 years ago he said he would likely get the Italian citizenship and play for our NT...

the news is that now he finally completed the burocratic tasks and got his Italian passport, so from now he could play for Italy...

Trouble in the Dutch men's league :d

Sunday, 5th and deciding match of the final between reigning champion Lycurgus of Groningen and challengers Orion of Doetinchem. Lycurgus won the first two sets and at 25-24 an ace gave them the title.....until the referee decided the ball was out :yikes:

Not sure if the video works outside the Netherlands:

https://www.dvhn.nl/sport/Volleybalbond-erkent-foute-beslissing-arbitrage-in-kampioensduel-Lycurgus-tegen-Orion-24451346.html

Orion got the point, 25-25, and went on to hold on against 4 more match points in the same set, before turning it around and taking the win and the title in 14-16 final set. The Dutch federation has now said the referee's decision on match point was indeed wrong, but there is 0 chance of any replay.

    • I really hope Nordic Combined doesn't get scrapped. Actually, I believe the Winter Olympics should keep growing with new sports and disciplines (3x3 Hockey, Ice Cross, Speed Skiing, Ice Climbing), otherwise they won't feel like a true celebration of sports like their summer counterpart.
    • In fact, well, no. Hockey is extremely physically demanding, I even think it is the most physically demanding winter sport of all. I mean keeping more than a minute on ice is just cardiac. The shifts are there for a reason.   25 players rosters are absolutely justified. You must have 4 lines to keep the stamina the whole game.   Hard to persuade people who never watched hockey though, I can understand your point, but sadly, the point is wrong
    • Stats are ok, but the time she losts on the range every time... My point was that she is more likely to make us losing the olympic relay than to make us winning it.
    • I'll jump on the off-topic with an unpopular opinion - ice hockey isn't so stamina demanding to justify 25 people rosters. And it doesn't have big playing fields like football or rugby for example, where you'd require so many reserves. 15 field players + 3 goalies should be good. Or 18+3 at max. But 25 is too much imo and the constant substitutes are too much as well.
    • But her shooting surely never was horrendous, or even bad for her standards.
