Has Karlovic refused or retired from playing Davis Cup?

He had a quarrel with the Croatian tennis federation about distribution of the money in Davis Cup for players few years ago, and refused to play for the team ever since.

Btw. I didn't know till now that your coach has Croatian ancestry. :dThere are actually lot of Croats in South America, especially in Argentina and Chile, mostly came there during the WWII.

That's right. For example, the only Argentinian gold medalist from London 2012 Sebastian Crismanich also has Croatian ancestry. :d

Martin Kližan and Lukáš Lacko are conditionally excluded from the national team for 1 year. Lacko was fined 10 000 Euro, Kližan 20 000 euro :champion:

Incredibly happy to see Kvitova winning P5/PM title for the 6th consecutive year! Her level of tennis this week was sublime. Everything clicked in the match with Angie, and the way she outplayed Halep was awe worthy. Well done Petra :champion: Curious about her stamina in Beijing. Would be a miracle if she snatches spot in Singapore, but given how awfully slow the surface is there, better to go for that Zhuhai title :d

And great to see Khachanov's breakthrough!!! After Zverev, another youngster (though, not a teenager) with ATP title, second week in a row!

Younger of Ymer brothers, Mikael had good run in Rome challenger. Curiously on clay, which is supposed to be his worst surface. Elias is better on clay but failed to beat Lamasine.

Mmoh is into his first challenger final, another promising teen from USA.

Few weeks ago we also witnessed to all-Korean final, my fave Duck-Hee Lee lost to two years older compatriot Hyeon Chung. Glad to see Chung won as well, after reaching top 60, he had really bad season. Hopefully this is a good sign.

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
