Yes, and that's it. So, don't try to justify this decision by mentioning that India is trying to help avoiding a global war. A neutral reaction right now only shows India defends its own interests and is not worried about Ukraine or peace at all.

Yes, we don’t care for Ukraine that is why we are plainly saying Russia must stop violence. That is why we are sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Still waiting to know what concrete steps has EU/NATO taken.

This is not about India!

it is about Ukraine and Russia.

honestly in the global context no one cares what India has to say. Not a relevant player despite huge population and despite having nukes. I don’t have anything against India, but it is just reality

It should be noted that Russia officially broke the Olympic truce, which on paper was set to expire on March 20th.

Even if all this gets resolved quickly, this leaves an argument for Russia to get a blanket ban on the next Olympics. Again, mostly considering that they were already on thin ice before any of this started.

True.

At olympic level there's no argument to defend their participation.

^ this is important context I feel. Russia has gone through basically every "intermediate" level of sanctions already for unrelated reasons this half decade. The IOC has nowhere to go but a full ban because they used every other option already for doping related violations.

I am skeptical that CAS would uphold a ban by the IOC on the grounds of breaking the Olympic Truce.

The other two times they recently did so didn't really lead to consequences in that regards though...I doubt they will now.

World Athletics has made a decision to exclude all Russian, Belarusian and ANA-athletes from Russia from World Athletics events for the foreseeable future.

Upcoming events includes:

- World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships 2022

- World Athletics Indoor Championships 2022

- World Athletics Championships 2022

I am really sorry for the innocent Russian athletes.

but I am also convinced it is the right thing to ban Russia (and Belarus) as it is one way to make the Russian public aware that something is going wrong.
There are still too many people in Russia not even aware that something is going on. Maybe they will notice when Rusdia is banned from all sporting events.

    • Euro 2020 had to deal with COVID and all of its restrictions, but it did showcase that there are diminishing returns for hosting in a large number of cities and in multiple countries.   The Olympics are already held outside of the host city for some sports. 2024 had 8 sports held partially or entirely outside of Paris. Is it really that crazy to have those sports clustered together in a second (or maybe third) area?
    • Exactly. UEFA tried this pan-European hosting idea with Euro 2020 and it proved to be a disaster not only from a logistics view. Safe to say that idea won't be brought back for decades again.
    • I haven't read anything about that   meanwhile many skiers were complaining about the snow and the different consistency of it between the sectors of the track   Odermatt was quite polite but very tough at the same time on that...
    • we already have something like that...it's the regular world championships!   I mean, if we spread the Games all around the Globe, we completely lose the fascination of a single great multi-disciplinary event in a single place (more or less, given that some sports are always held far away from the actual Olympic City)   it's just another thing, it's not the Olympic Games anymore   if that's to be the case, I'd rather prefer the single championships to be well spread through the whole year, so to be able to watch the most of them without losing hours of sleep
