1468977465158684672?s=20There will be a "pathway" for Boxing, Modern Pentathlon and/or Weightlifting to be included as "core" sports for 2028, and of course the OC could propose them.

Damn, UPIM fucked up. Glad to see boxing and weightlifting gone. They had ample opportunity to clean up their act over the last few years.

“With regard to football, the IOC will continue to monitor the evolution of the international match calendar.” Noteworthy quote as well.

Ok with climbing (only in separate events version ofc), let say ok with skateboarding (atractive and quite spectacular to watch (Park)) but Surfing ??? come on, why ? Never saw more boring thing in whole my life than that thing in Tokyo...

Probably due to the WC proposal every 2 years.

Making surfing permanent almost excludes any inland host. For Example Toronto cannot host surfing and I'm sure other cities are in the same boat.

And great just what the Olympics needs... more judged sports.

Can't wait for @phelps response

Paris set a pretty clear precedent that the IOC will let you host surfing literally anywhere in your country without any complaints - a Toronto bid would have no problem finding a suitable natural venue somewhere in Canada.

And if there is no suitable venue in country and a bid isn't willing to have a venue in another country wave pools are a possibility now (even though they are very much considered a back-up option).

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
