yes I find it disproportionate 10 - 15 athletes would have been enough! and besides that we reduce the wild cards to small nations

They had 29 in Tokyo, so whilst an increase, it's not that crazy. The jump from 10 in Rio to 29 in Tokyo was much bigger.

 

But let's be honest here - the IOC is always going to support this because it makes them look good, so to speak. It's at least 50% pure politics.

Seems to be quite heavy on quotas for judo and taekwondo - almost 1/3 of quotas going to just 2 sports.

The IOC generally uses exceptional/discretionary invitation for the EOR.

I think they gave so much of those judo quotas for them to compete in the team’s competition

Team :SVK Update (11.05.2024)

 

18th Qualified athlete and 6th Sport for Slovakia

 

The Freestyle Wrestler Tajmuraz Salkazanov became today the newest addition to the Team Slovensko for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 4 times consecutive reigning European Champion in the up to 74kg Class category booked his ticket tonight at the Final World Qualification Tournament in Turkiye.

 

Despite being arguably one of the best wrestler in his class for several years will experience only his Olympic debut in Paris after narrowly missing the Tokyo Games.

 

Tajmuraz, The 28 years old Russian-Ossetian born is representing Slovakia since 2018, during this 8 years period he managed to achieve plenty of successes including the U23 world title in his first year under Slovakia, the already mentioned 4 European seniors titles and 3 world Championships medals. Living in Slovakia, speaking fluent Slovak and member of our Army, with a grade of Sergeant Major I do believe in English, is considered as one of our top and most famous naturalized athletes.

 

 

So Team Slovakia is now composed of:

18 Athletes in 6 sports. (9M+9W)

Viktória Forster (W 100m Hurdles)
