And this is why these draconian COVID lockdowns will never work. No matter how much planning & preparation go into them, there’s always a weak link somewhere, someone in authority who’s doing things on the cheap, or who thinks the rules don’t apply.

Panic at the Tokyo Games as 12 police officers guarding athletes at the Olympic Village test positive for Covid and 38 more are told to isolate - with all 50 officers aged in their 20s and sharing cramped accommodation

I posted in the artistic swimming topic, but Evangelia Platanioti from Greece tested positive and Greece withdrew from the duet because of her positive covid test. Greece will still compete in the team event though, using the alternate athlete.

Sam Kendricks, the team USA pole vaulter who stopped mid run to pause for the anthem, tested positive for COVID-19 and is out of the Olympics.

That is heartbreaking news, he is one of my favourite non-Polish athletes :(

The entire :AUS Athletics team is in lockdown due to close contact with Sam Kendricks. All their athletes are being tested and won't be allowed to leave their rooms until the results come back negative.

I think the Covid surge in Tokyo will end up seeing the Paralympics cancelled as I can see the Japanese Goverment choosing electoral survival over the rights of the Paralympians and pulling the plug.
