I had the pleasure of working with a former Olympian last year and I got to grill him over his experience (coincidentally he competed in Vancouver).  He said walking into the stadium was the highlight for him.  He said you treat the Olympic competition like any other, but walking in under the lights and fanfare, he said it was other-worldly.  I was happy to hear that because it's my favourite part of the of OC.

I would imagine being the next host in just a few months has something to do with it as well (I'm living in Beijing, btw).

Sure, China and Japan agreed to support each other’s OG so China will support Japan’s decision and will not offend Japan on purpose during the game. And glad to meet our Canadian friend living the same city.

I have never heard the Japanese anthem being presented so non-depressing as this, that is actually very good!

Well it's Misia, if it's depressing then the whole ceremony will flop

Oh, we can only remember the loved ones who aren't with us anymore due to the COVID pandemic. Shame, I had hoped we could also remember those we lost for different reasons...

He was as shocked as Eddie Dunbar, with the difference being that Dunbar was both shocked and highly unimpressed at the same time.

It felt like how you would hear the American anthem before the Super Bowl, or God Save The Queen before the FA Cup Final/British GP

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

    • the basic is the same but with different tricks, different strategy etc. it's a mixture of frestyle and Greco because you can't dive for a single leg attack.    I'm surprised to see ~20 wrestlers in each weight. hopefully that doesn't tempt UWW or IOC to try this in major events. as a wrestling fan I find this very unwatchable !
