She could have also competed for :BER if she wanted.

She would have had to establish a national federation though, as :BER isn’t associated with the ISU.

AFAIK Stellato-Dudek does not have Canadian citizenship

That's too bad... I thought anyone could get Canadian citizenship. :p

No Olympics for Deanna Stellato-Dudek, the fanciest of the fancy names. :(

It seems like her husband must be of Polish descent - Illinois where she comes from is full of Polish immigrants.

She is aiming for the 2026 Olympics, where she would be... 42.

:CAN Canadian National Championships, final results

Men's Single (2 quotas available)

  1. Keegan Messing
  2. Roman Sadovsky
  3. Wesley Chiu

Women's Single (1 quota available)

  1. Madeline Schizas
  2. Véronik Mallet
  3. Gabrielle Daleman

Pairs (2 quotas available)

  1. Kirsten Moore-Towers / Michael Marinaro
  2. Evelyn Walsh / Trennt Michaud
  3. Deanna Stellato-Dudek / Maxime Deschamps

Ice Dance (3 quotas available)

  1. Piper Gilles / Paul Poirier
  2. Laurence Fournier-Beaudry / Nikolaj Sørensen
  3. Marjorie Lajoie / Zachary Lagha

The Olympic team will be announced tomorrow, but with one exception it's almost certainly already decided. Keegan Messing and Roman Sadovsky will likely get the men's spots, Madeline Schizas will likely get the women's spot, Kirsten Moore-Towers / Michael Marinaro will likely get one of the pairs spots and Piper Gilles / Paul Poirier, Laurence Fournier-Beaudry / Nikolaj Sørensen and Marjorie Lajoie / Zachary Lagha will likely get the ice dance spots.

The only remaining question is the second pairs spot. Vanessa James and Eric Radford withdrew before the long program and are petitioning for a spot.

This will fly under the radar, but Artur Dmitriev made a valiant attempt at quad axel at the U.S. Nationals.

Would have been so random had he succeeded and become the very first person to do it in competition. :d

It actually got called as a 4A<, so this is technically the first landed quad Axel landed in competition.

Big drama in the men's singles. 17 year old Ilia Malinin finished ahead of two selection favorites - Jason Brown and Vincent Zhou.

There is a chance however that he gets dismissed by the selection committee in favor of those two, what would of course cause a big controversy. Perhaps big enough for him to immediately switch nationalities to :UZB Uzbekistan (he is the son of one Tatiana Malinina)?

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
