Yeah, my bigger 'concern' with China is whether they perform on the very highest stage. They've always put fast times down in domestic meets but not always collectively performed on the international stage (they've always had a couple of stars who've performed, but not necessarily the team as a whole). If they can solve that problem on a consistent basis, they are a force to be reckoned with.

In the season opener held in the scorching heat the women's team clocked 3:28:64 despite all of them running mixed relay and hour ago. None of the athletes were at their best but that was the quickest season opener as far as the records go. With all racers trying to get into best shape in a standalone women's relay sub 3:26 is possible which would break the 20 year old national record. Men were pretty poor with 3:05:71 and hope they catch up early for mixed relays.

Maria Kyridou (rowing) She didn't qualify yet, but was 5th in the women's pair in Tokyo as a 20 yo, and was planning on going to the final qualification regatta in the women's double sculls with her sister Anneta (who competed in the single scull in Tokyo). Unfortunately, Maria has a foot injury and just got surgery earlier this week. Meanwhile, Anneta since last month started training again for the single sculls while her sister has been injured.

If Marchand wants that gold he's gonna have to swim a best time in the Olympic final after a very heavy program consisting of 2 x 400 IM, 3 x 200 FL, 3 x 200 BR and 2 x 200 IM plus some relays while Wang Shun will probably only have swum 2 x 200 IM plus maybe the 4x200 relay final. It'll be a massive feat if Marchand can pull it off.
