As usual, Brazil gets great scores in competitions no one cares about, but when it's time for the bigger events, half of the team is injured and the other half underperforms
 

Kahena Kunze joins her. It's the first time Brazil has two people as flag bearers, although other nations have done it before.

I could be wrong, but my bet is that they're "saving" Isaquias for Tokyo, which would be much more prestigious anyway.
 

I don't think it's entirely fair to call her "another white woman" when she's the first one to be our flag bearer in 18 editions of the Pan American Games (+ an Olympic champion!). Also, Sandra Pires was clearly selected as Olympic flag bearer in 2000 for winning our first gold medal among women, while Yane Marques in 2016 was an odd choice, but kinda understandable when many others where competing in the first days (including, for instance, Sarah Menezes). If a black woman deserved to be chosen at the Rio Olympics, that was Fabiana, but unfortunately I think Volleyball started at the day after the ceremony. I hope she's considered for 2020 if she plays next year (but, again, not likely since it's a team sport with competition starting Saturday).
 
For Lima, I was wishing for Isaquias to be our flag bearer, but I think he might be selected for Tokyo...

Still better than Poland's medal haul. The only one we got is Olivia Smoliga but it doesn't count

To continue the announcements, I myself will NOT be attending the Pan American Games to repeat my appearance at the 2015 Games. 

Even though he's on the list (and would be one of the biggest stars in the Games), Justin Gatlin won't go to Lima anymore. Don't think he'll be replaced, so that makes 642 athletes for USA.

It's probably in order of importance regarding the qualification events. #1 and #2 seeds from the Men's event were on the podium at the last ISA World Games (argentine athlete was the champion, and the peruvian was third). Same for the Women's where the american #1 seed was the best from the Americas at that event.
 

Open Surf = shortboard. Olympic qualifiers will come from these events.
 

Except that Brazil surfers are not really great, and athletes from other nations will challenge USA here. I guess Argentina, Canada and Peru might have a chance to get a quota.
