  1. Am I the only one noticing some similarities with the Rio opening ceremony? Especially regarding the design and overall elements (like the stage with singers/dancers/climbers at one side and the place where the flag will be raised at the other)? Anyway, even with some technical issues (lighting and the projection of the images could be better) they're doing a good enough job.
  2. Reports are saying that Kazakhstan's Olympic medalist, Denis Ten, has tragically passed away following an attack in Almaty. If true, this is devastating
  3. Maybe, but there are sports fans who do work during Olympics time and don't have the luxury of staying up all night to watch the events (like me ). I'm not saying it's a good thing, but I see why they did the schedule that way. Of course I will request some vacation time during Tokyo just to watch everything
  4. It will probably favour the american viewers? Which of course is good for brazilians that share the same time zone (in Pyeongchang I slept most of the days because nothing was happening at dawn, except maybe some Cross Country and Curling).
  5. Women's Handball and Volleyball finals are more exciting (to me) than Men's. So maybe for some people the Men's events are better, but not for everyone - I know for a fact that sports fans in Brazil care more about Women's than Men's, and that's a big market if we're talking about Volleyball. + (i'm just fishing here) maybe the time difference favours the Men's events finals to be held on Saturday? (for America viewers, I mean?) Maybe they could create a rotation system, but there's no reason to be so mad at this decision.
  6. Well, yes, but I was referring more to the women's "problem". The new sports are a whole new conversation.
  7. I'm not 100% behind IOC changes either (those mixed events are mostly unnecessary and will only be good for the top nations anyway), but at least they're trying to add new things (and nothing extremely radical like what happens on YOG). For some opinions here, it looks like 3 or 4 more women's events will completely ruin the Winter Olympics
  8. It was taking too long before the "women are destroying the Olympics!!!" comments to appear
  9. Some notes: - First competition of the Games will be a Softball match on the Wednesday before the Opening Ceremony; - Football, Archery and Rowing also will start before or at the day of the OC; - It looks like the first medal will come from Shooting, as usual; - Taekwondo will be held on the first 4 days of the Games starting on Saturday, rather than on the last days like in the previous Games. Maybe they changed this because Karate will happen on the days that Taekwondo used to be held; - There will be a Cycling event every single day of the Games, in order: 2 days of Road, 2 of MB, 1 of Road (Time Trial), 2 of BMX, 2 of BMX Freestyle and 7 of Track (which will now have events until the last Sunday); - I think Basketball, Handball and Volleyball all have switched the day of Men's and Women's final. Men's will be on the last Saturday and Women's on Sunday. Beach Volleyball remain the same but finals will be later than usual (last Friday for Women's and Saturday for Men's); - Premilinary rounds and Finals of a given Wrestling category will be played in different days.
  10. Today it starts the Men's and Women's Sitting Volleyball World Championships in the Netherlands. The finalists in both tournaments will qualify for Tokyo 2020. Useful links: official website I facebook page I results (men's / women's)
  11. A silver and a bronze for Brazil + good results in some events. Good participation considering I expected nothing.
  12. Women's Volleyball +12 +12 +12 +12 +12 For NORCECA, only 1 spot remain, and Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago should play a qualification tournament to determine the last qualifier. But for CSV I don't think a tournament will be necessary? The qualification system for Volleyball states: As Peru is already qualified for being the host, I think the obvious choice is to give Argentina the direct slot. The only other nation that could be invited to play this tournament is Chile, but I don't think they're interested - they didn't even participate at the South American Games.
  13. Women's Rugby Sevens WR World Cup 2018 San Francisco (USA) - 20 July 2018 - 22 July 2018 Totallympics Results Thread
  14. Well, I agree, but between here and there I think there's a possibility to at least create a good group of players. What I do not believe, not in the slightest, is that Brazil can win the World Championship. We didn't with far better teams, so it will be hard to even reach semifinals now. USA and China are the favourites IMO. And while we depend a lot on top players, most of the previous generation is gone anyway (as you know, Jaque just announced her retirement from the national team, and Garay asked to not be called), so we have to find a way to work with what we have at the moment.
  15. Brazil was destroyed by Dominican Republic at the semifinal. This team is embarrassing and I hope none of these players gets called to the main team (except, of course, the ones that are greatly missed: Dani Lins and Thaísa). Anyway, Dominican Republic and USA will fight for gold and I don't wanna brag but...
  16. Semifinals this Friday: vs vs All 4 are qualified for the Pan American Games. and will play for 5th place and the winner will also qualify.
  17. Of course it's the back, why would they do a different design just for the silver medal? Anyway, I think they're cool.
  18. And Canada just won against Dominican Republic, joining Brazil is semifinals - which means both teams are now qualified for the Pan American Games.
  19. Why the commentator has to say "punto VIVA. VIVA: estamos de tu lado" after every damn point? Poor guy...
  20. Yes, but because of the defeat to Cuba, USA will have to play Quarterfinals - as well as the 2nd ranked teams Colombia, Puerto Rico and the loser of Canada vs. Dominican Republic. As the best 1st place teams, Brazil and the winner of Canada vs. Dominican Republic have qualified directly to the Semifinals.
