  1. Tim Merlier takes the win in his first ever GT stage, of all days he does it exactly ten years after the death of fellow Belgian sprinter Wouter Weylandt. He had already shown to be one of the very best sprinters in the world in terms of pure speed, but this was impressive Nearly a bad fall for Gaviria, luckily organizers here do know how to set up the boarding. Giacomo Nizzolo, in his 8th Giro, just comes up short for the win...his 10th second place, still no wins. The rest was basically nowhere to be seen, apart from Sagan a kilometer or so earlier when giving some hits and Ewan because he failed so badly it was noteworthy
  2. Goulão is two minutes ahead of Mourão, wow. It won't help her anything, since the decision of who gets the ticket is based more on last year than on current results, but it's at least quite a performance.
  3. Why is the live timing always so annoying with the control points in laps and such? Looks like Raiza is taking Jaque apart for now, but it might be a misreading of the timing.
  4. Or 100km shorter. Why add 40km of nothing to something that's already nothing, that's torture (for the viewers)
  5. Meanwhile this is the race for Jaque Mourão to 100% grab the Olympic ticket. As far as I know, she has to finish the race and that's it, whereas Raiza Goulão needs to hope that she does'nt and finish top-20 herself. Ain't gonna happen There is, of course, the bit of pressure in having to really show who is better, even if that doesn't matter for the Olympic ticket.
  6. As for today's stage, it's one big fuck you to the fans. Presenting this insanely boring monstrosity on a Sunday Finish is expected somewhere between 17:00 and 17:30, tuning in at 16:45 or so is most likely going to be early enough because you won't miss a thing before that.
  7. After finishing the time trial, Krists Neilands fell on the way back to the hotel...broken collarbone and DNS today
  8. Also, there was a parade yesterday? Honoring nazi soldiers?
  9. Not sure about other places, but online I mostly see Israel being synonymous with aggression. Quite a lot of people care (at least it gets a shitload more attention in the online world here than something like the horrific situation in Xinjiang).
  10. I think half of his advantage came in turns actually, more than once he didn't stop pedalling but accelerated...
  11. Riding 58.7km/h average including a standing start and several corners, that is absolutely absurd
  12. Rik Verbrugghe's ancient ITT record remains...barely 58.8 vs 58.7 (Ganna) km/h
  13. Evenepoel with a total disaster.
  14. Disappointing result for Cavagna, Affini and Foss fell in some magic water.
  15. I don't think Campenaerts would really be expected at the top and also I don't think Dries de Bondt would be the man to take the win away from him
  16. As for predictions: I'm going for Cavagna for the ITT today. But wtf, these odds for Evenepoel winning the Giro (not the stage, but the GC) Odds of 1.43 for Evenepoel NOT to finish on the podium of the GC, damn. That is some value.
  17. I have spent almost no time following Olympic qualifiers this week and some time reading about the Giro Just didn't feel like opening a thread Yates' Tour of the Alps makes me doubt him here...he was incredible there, with a hard third Giro week I wouldn't be surprised if once again he got the timing wrong. Meanwhile, Belgium is expecting Evenepoel to win the ITT and then stay in pink for three weeks after crashing hard last year and then getting back to training too early, getting injured again and basically only training normal since last month
  18. Eurosport is live, including Alberto Contador whose gig to kick in open doors has apparently been renewed.
  19. Ah yes, I've seen quite a lot of articles talking about the protests and police brutality there, but not on big news websites indeed. Only on some obscure blogs like The New York Times, BBC, Reuters, CBS and a few others nobody has ever heard of.
