  1. Olha aqui, @brunamoura no Link Vanguarda, é um video muito legal https://globoplay.globo.com/v/10016757/
  2. The Mallorca round has started. Apparently there's a Sprint League with two sprint events (sprint and keirin) and an Endurance League with two semi-sprint events (elimination race and scratch). Too bad there's not an Actual Endurance League. Eurosport is making a huge, huge show out of it though, with all kinds of stuff and explanations (even on the scratch, which is literally just "X laps, first to finish is the winner" ).
  3. She has apparently gotten confirmation that she'll be allowed to participate We're so happy for her, it's so great to see her coming to Europe again! Too bad we probably won't be able to meet up anywhere, but still, that's awesome!
  4. Oh well, one can only assume they knowingly threw away their Olympic hopes, so I'm sure they're not too sad about it (assuming it has been possible for them to receive a vaccine for months by now).
  5. One-on-one that's more like a tug'o'small'battle though
  6. Meanwhile in the Netherlands, a local 'snack bar' owner in the city of Goes has once again won in court and remains the sole owner of a Wendy's in the Benelux area. He has been fighting the American fast food chain Wendy's for many years, since they want to start their own restaurants in the Netherlands and Belgium like in many other countries, but a court has decided this guy and his joint have sole ownership of their name Pretty awesome to see some local shop (without any other branches or anything, it's just this one in this one place) beat out an American giant in court, for years Rightfully so, it'd be bullshit if he had to change his name just because some US giant comes marching in. Especially some US giant which has as good as no reputation in this part of the world, most people who have even heard of the name literally only know it because of this exact case, a majority of the rest knows it from some movie or show or something and a tiny minority from having been to the US
  7. Whole lot of things to mention from the past few days of races in São Carlos, with all kinds of stuff going on in the fight for the Chilean men's ticket for the Olympics (not sure if the DNF's and DNS's have something to do with it, but even without that it's being very close left and right), among other things. Bruna might have set a big step towards getting one of the two Brazilian women's tickets with this absolutely fantastic bit of qualifying yesterday. For some perspective: on the slow rollerskis they were using and the wet (!) road, anything in the low four minutes would have been very good. Her time would have been 8th out of 17 in the men's qualifying, she was faster (!) than 2018 Olympian Victor Santos - who is barely even one of the top-5 Brazilians anymore nowadays, but still! Plus today there was this result in the 5k freestyle, where Ceci Dominguez's result might have helped her to the Argentinian women's Olympic ticket by literally no more than half a second or so. As in, half a second more behind Bruna (winner) than she was now and she would have been the second Argentinian in the FIS points list, which is presumably the main criterium for Argentina in terms of choosing their Olympian. No confirmations or anything yet, but all of these tickets are very hard-fought and the fights are far from over (although possibly the Argentinian one might be, considering they're highly unlikely to improve their points on snow)!
  8. Nothing needs laser shooting anyway. If there's shooting combined with running, make it so that a miss is actually penalized and we don't get a situation where everyone just scrambled to get a billion shots off as fast as possible, because a few of them will be hits anyway.
  9. That would probably be both a little painful and a relieve. At least it'll avoid another debacle like that German whose name I forgot who went batshit crazy in Tokyo. Edit: even better if they're going to replace it with cycling
  10. Well damn, that makes me feel old. I remember she was my favourite athlete when she won her second junior world title...no idea that was already that long ago
  11. You never know, but I do kind of feel like this might be spam.
  12. Schouten with the 8th fastest 5k in history And it could probably have gone faster if she'd started a little stronger, judging by the acceleration she still had in the end.
  13. Uuuugh Schulting is riding so annoying this whole week. She lucked her way into the 1000m final after a way too aggressive move (granted, the Russian getting penalized was not wrong, just Schulting being advanced was wrong), then threw it away with a random fall in the mixed semi. Yesterday she already caused herself and Kristen Santos to crash hard after the finish.
  14. I do have a provisional ranking. Probably I'd like to tweak it a bit more and since we haven't heard from our host yet, I'm assuming at least tomorrow is fine If not, let me know and I'll send my provisional ranking immediately.
  15. Normally this is one of my shortest nights of the year because there's usually MotoGP/2/3 in Australia, which start at 2-3am or so, but COVID, so not this time...long sleep incoming
  16. She's also become more known among non-sports fans this year, due to a documentary about her family and mostly her mother. She had a brain bleed a few years ago and nowadays can only speak a few words and that's about it. I haven't seen it yet, but apparently it's rather...impressive? Intense? Not sure what the right word is. I remember a few years ago Schouten finally had a big breakthrough win (probably in a mass start) in Heerenveen, which she immediately dedicated to her mom who had just survived the bleed and was sitting in a wheelchair behind a window in the stadium, sort of staring down and not entirely 'there'. That was pretty heartbreaking. So, yeah. Go Schouten.
  17. Believe it or not, for national races like this it's usually the fastest one and I didn't want to wait for some document somewhere
  18. Netherlands for sure (yet) I still have hope to be able to finish today..
  19. Tomorrow is, among other things, the men's 10k. Could be very interesting with Bergsma in his current shape: he is someone for who the classic formula of (2 x 5km time) + 20s = 10km time often works very well, looking at the past 6-7 years of national championships that was often correct within a few seconds (more often faster than slower). That might put him on 12:35 or even world record pace tomorrow..
  20. Wow, Irene Schouten just skated 3:54.59 on the 3km, the 8th fastest time in history (in Heerenveen, not in SLC/Calgary) It might have been the most 'flat' 3k anyone has ever skated at this kind of level, unbelievable what a race: 30.3-30.7-30.6-30.6-30.7-30.8-30.7 makes it the first ever (!) women's 3k race with not a single 31+ lap.
  21. Finally I have listened all songs at least once Now to the ranking phase. Which is going to be incredibly tough, since there wasn't really one song that made me think "wow, this is really good" whereas there were a ton of songs which made me think "this is fine". Basically I'd like to fit 15-20 songs inside the 1-4 points category Maybe the next listen will help in finding something I'd like to give 10+ points
  22. Haha, that 1500m final Confortola, sir, you are magnificent
  23. Alright skating in the men's 500m, although that was marred by bad starts, false starts (thanks to a starter who took his sweet time), injury and more negative things. Near-insane times in the women's 1500m, unheard of even for a Dutch national championships race. This is Wüst's 18th national 1500m medal in 19 participations, by the way.
