  1. We're already at the "48 hours to choose a song" mark? Damn, I was planning on being early
  2. What a surprise, Fury always seemed like such an intelligent, well-behaving gentleman.
  3. Georgia will get a biathlon centre https://www.newsgeorgia.ge/40108-2/
  4. To be fair, there was basically no competition at all At least no competition of the level she already beat in the World Cup last season. I hope she continues in both, this girl is an extraordinary talented athlete
  5. Last question for today: Imagine athletes A, B and C (all women from the same nation) all have less than 100 FIS points and are for example 210th, 310th and 350th on the FIS points list, does that mean this nation can send 3 women in XC? Asking because of all nations with no "Additional" quota (whatever that may be) in 2014, all of them only have either 1 or 2 per gender, none of them have 3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-country_skiing_at_the_2014_Winter_Olympics_–_Qualification
  6. I hope you don't mind me asking probably almost the same thing but in different words a ton more times in the next few days since the whole "how can a nation get two tickets in a specific gender?"-thing is of huge importance for two friends of mine who try to qualify, so I'm dead-set on getting it exactly right At least in biathlon it's all much easier to understand.
  7. Qualifying for 2014 seems to have been basically the same, right? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-country_skiing_at_the_2014_Winter_Olympics_–_Qualification How come Armenia could send 2 men, when they only had 1 athlete in the top-300 of the FIS Points List (distance)? Edit: Wait, the other athlete Armenia sent was 748th on the FIS Points List, but had only 86 FIS points, so he did have the A-standard.. I've rarely seen a qualifying system so insanely complicated..now I just really lost track of what this whole top-300 thing means and why "additional" has such a weird meaning.
  8. Right, smart idea from FIS/IOC to use words/sentences that can be explained in two totally different ways Thanks Well, not really " " because it's actually rather grim news..
  9. By the way, how about this One additional quota place...doesn't that mean that every NOC with at least 1 athlete in the top-300 gets the basic quota plus the additional quota place, meaning a total of two quota places?
  10. So to get it all straight: for Brazil to get a 2nd women's quota, they have to have 2 women who have to be both in the top-300 and have less than 100 FIS points? Well that's gonna be hard
  11. Well, yeah I thought it would be explicitly written that athletes who have someone with the A-standard can not have an athlete with the B-standard
  12. There is no news to be expected anymore after CAS already ruled earlier this year He lost the 2014/15 World Cup title and Tour de Ski victory (because the results of 2 races were scrapped) and was banned for 2 months starting in July, meaning he missed the incredibly important months of July, August and part of September
  13. NOCs that do not have at least 1 athlete with A-standard can send 1 athlete with B-standard. That's clear. But I don't see anything about NOCs that do have at least 1 athlete with A-standard (like Brazil if everything goes right and they have 1 athlete with A standard). I mean, I don't see where NOCs that have 1 or more athletes with the A-standard are excluded from sending someone with the B-standard. This can also be due to my lack of ability to read exactly what they mean in this kind of long rules
  14. Sneakily moving the discussion out of the biathlon thread to here... @dcro, which part of the qualifying document specifies that in order to get 2 female (or male, but in this case I'm talking about female) athletes in XC, both athletes have to be in the top-300 of the distance/sprint FIS list and have to have less than 100 FIS points? I don't really see that part, so it's not that I'm doubting what you said, I just want to be certain before I contact CBDN about it and be able to point them to some document or something http://comiteolimpicoportugal.pt/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/2016-03-09-PyeongChang-2018-Qualification-System-Cross-Country-Skiing-V1.pdf
  15. Are you sure about especially that first part? As far as I know, CBDN (the Brazilian federation) is quite certain that one athlete getting under 100 FIS points and being inside the top-300 is enough, which they're planning to reach with Mourão. If that's out of the question though, I think it might be about time I ask Bruna to have a conversation with CBDN's cross-country guy about whether or not he read the rules right
  16. I'll be cheering for every miraculous Slovak 0+0 or, if theoretically possible, 0+0+0+0, don't worry
  17. Obviously, but I mean, last season Slovakia finished 16th in the Nation Cup, where top-20 is needed for 5 quotas. They'd probably make it without Kuzmina of course, but if she's not there, they really can't have a situation where P Fialkova and/or Gerekova would get injured and be out for a month or longer. Now that Kuzmina is there again, they have more 'breathing space' in case someone gets injured, so much less reason to worry if something unexpected happens
  18. Ah, true As for Brazil, that's not gonna happen for the men since there's no male biathlete with a reasonable chance to qualify. As for the women, they're hoping for 2 quota in cross-country (very, very likely Jaqueline Mourão and maybe someone else, depending on whether or not Mourão qualifies a second quota), and in biathlon they're hoping for Bruna to qualify. If Mourão manages to get the 2nd quota, Mika Picin and Gabi Neres would be likely contenders for that one so I doubt we'll see anyone compete in both XC and biathlon for Brazil this time
  19. Well even if you only gets back at 90% of what she used to be it should still pretty much ensure Slovakia has 5 women's quota in Pyeongchang instead of having the fear to drop down to 2, so that's good
  20. I fail to see the meaning behind this post, whether I should read it literally or as a form of sarcasm
  21. For the lovers of watching without understanding what's being said, here's some videos of the "Brazilian cross-country skiing sprint challenge" in Gramado last weekend (yes, that's a competition on snow, in Brazil, indoor snow, but snow). Posting it in the biathlon thread because of the participants, I think Bruna Moura has the highest chance to actually qualify for the Olympics and she's mostly focussed on biathlon http://g1.globo.com/rs/rio-grande-do-sul/bom-dia-rio-grande/videos/v/atletas-da-selecao-brasileira-de-esportes-no-gelo-participaram-de-prova-em-gramado-rs/5331612/ http://g1.globo.com/rs/rio-grande-do-sul/rbs-noticias/videos/t/edicoes/v/atletas-treinam-em-gramado-para-olimpiadas-de-inverno/5330449/
  22. Jesus, finally
  23. Don't be too hard, it's just and old dude and like most people in most of the world (let alone China) he has no idea how this whole ice hockey thing works Apart from that, 550 spectactors is the lowest ever? That's a seriously high number for a "lowest ever" record
  24. A little over two weeks until the South Americans are fighting for their big FIS points to help in their goals to qualify for Pyeongchang 2018. Athletes from Brazil, Argentina and Chile will compete in several roller skiing competitions in São Carlos
  25. Thanks for the informative and big answer Its actually a lot more prestigious than I thought..
