  1. no. sets ratio comes first and not points ratio. Netherlands just needs one set to qualify.
  2. for each event, 1 one point for 1st place , 2 for 2nd place and the same for the rest. but for example in case of tie for 1st place they give 1.5 points to each one. and they multiply those points at the end and less points means better place
  3. at least the final day was good winning all 3 matches in medal round but Poursheib is actually in the same weight as Ganjzadeh (-84 and +84 will be merged for Tokyo) and Mehdizadeh at 60kg doesn't have a good chance to shine one weight up. I know Asian Games was very important and I agree with that but I just hope not sending most of our top athletes into the Asian Championship doesn't hurt us at the end of the qualifiers. for example Ganjzadeh missed lots of "easy" points by not competing in Asian Champs and in +84 he doesn't cut weight . not sending him to Jordan one month before Jakarta was a mistake IMO. the reserve guy Abazari won the gold but what's the point!? he didn't even participate here in Berlin. considering the current economical crisis Iran we won't see much of Iranians in future Karate1 events, only those who can pay for their own trips.
  4. Brazil's defeat was mother of all surprises ! but Russia losing to USA was also a big surprise. specially because USA wasn't impressive so far. There is a big chance Brazil finishing 3rd in Group B and Russia 2nd in Group C. which means whoever wins Group D will make life just harder for itself ! add Argentina (specially with the way they played tonight not the disastrous first match vs Belgium) to this group and then this will be the toughest possible group in 2nd round ! OK Poland you can take the group
  5. Did they just give up trying after one defeat ? you know you may regret losing one set to Tunisia at the end. about the competition's format. this is somehow good to consider all results because we won't see a disgrace like Brazil-Bulgaria in 2010 but still all those 4th placed teams (with probably 3 defeats) have absolutely no chance in 2nd round even before the start !! I know there is no perfect format but this one is far from good.
  6. what's up with Serbia ?! they play like they don't care about the result ! Do they know this result will be counted in next round too ? quite improvement from Tunisia after losing a set 25-6 yesterday !
  7. I appreciate WKF at least having a live score system but they really have to upgrade their software. it just sucks. I see there are so many Iranians in the draw most of them losing 0-0 in the first round !! after a bit search that's just "no show" I don't know how that's possible to register something like 30-40 players and 70% of them don't show up and still no consequences from WKF for ruining the draw ! even for those Iranians in the competition this is a poor result . only Ganjzadeh made it to the final. Poursheib and Mehdizadeh in bronze medal match. maybe that's not a surprise since they had no time to rest after the Asian Games.
  8. nah I wish so but that's not realistic. we could be in semifinal 4 years ago but we blew our chance against a team weaker than us (Germany) I'm glad with these two wins but I know our level. there are 5-6 teams much stronger in the competition. a top 6 finish will be fantastic. but let's finish the 1st round first.
  9. That was a very good win for Iran even though Manavinejad's poor reception became our Achilles' heel but he was effective in attack. he was injured the whole summer he is not fit yet. that was risky starting with him but since we won the match that wasn't a bad decision. I really enjoyed the 4th set, that was the team I knew, full of fight, never giving up. it's not easy to play against the host team while they have the momentum after winning the 3rd set. Bulgaria had so many serve errors because they had to take the risk (which helped them in 3rd set though) since they knew our setter is too good for their blockers.
  10. that's for the qualification, there is still a combined final left with probably top 6 athletes.
  11. what a win for Alipour this guy is very unlucky he deserves much more than this. his gold medal in Asian Games was the only gold medal of Iran in the Games nobody never saw his competition in Iran. (only gold medal of Iran in Palembang with much much less TV and media coverage) and right now nobody in Iran (except probably me and his family ) he is the world champion. and I think tomorrow some news websites will just mention it this is tough sport. not a random martial arts sport with less than 6 competitors. being World Champion in this speed event is something . his interview was also funny after the win, his translator was terrible he didn't say I'm injured right now, he said I was injured at the start of the season and this wasn't a good season for me because of that. he is now current World Champion, current Asian Games Champion, Current World Games champion and current Asian Championships gold medalist. there is nothing more for him to win since speed specialists have no chance in combined event.
  12. looks like we weren't that good last night, actually Puerto Rico was very bad
  13. Alipour finished first in the qualification. which is a bit surprising to me i was expecting him to be a bit out of shape right after the Asian Games. even though it still means nothing as we know how things work in knockout round. everything is possible. but at least being the top seed gives you a bit of confidence. but I really don't like the format for speed knockout rounds. they have to make it best of 3 or something like that. during the Asian Games (if I'm not wrong ) 3 out of 4 speed finals ended up with false start !! that's no fun for the natural audience .
  14. I just noticed we had a 21st place finish in bouldering while only top 20 could make it to the semifinals ! what a pity I didn't even know we have more than one athlete (beside Alipour of course) here. obviously they paid for their own trips.
  15. That was a good start for Iran. even though I know Puerto Rico was probably the weakest team of the group but still Iranian players usually can't play good for all 3 sets ! even against Pakistan they had hard time to finish it in 3 sets. so I consider this an improvement. next match will be key for Iran. I don't know who is the favorite for tomorrow match vs Bulgaria but I know if they want to go far in this tournament they have to win this one. someone corrects me if I'm wrong but it seems all points from the 1st round will be carrying forward to the next round so you can't afford losing winnable matches if you want to achieve something here.
  16. well. still nothing in senior level and in term of Olympic quotas but Amir Mohammad Nekounam won Iran's first ever gold medal in a world shooting championships in Men's junior rifle 3 positions Iran's 4th medal of the competition and actually his 4th medal too ! previously winning 3 silver medals in Air Rifle, Air rifle team and mixed air rifle ! looks like we finally have a "good" male rifle shooter. I didn't expect an Olympic quota here and had low expectations so winning 4 medals and having some more finalists and couple of 4th place finishes (and for the first time in a pistol event) is actually a good result.
  17. Iran was a mess in last (and only) preparation tournament in Slovenia. coach was still trying to test players etc. obviously sending the first team to the Asian Games wasn't a good idea regarding to this competition. but let's see what they can do when the real tournament starts. 4 years ago Iran lost 4 times to USA in friendlies right before the Worlds but managed to beat USA 3-2 when it mattered btw, watching Iran-Slovenia match, I noticed more than of half of commercials around the court are in Persian language no wonder why FIVB isn't interested to have Slovenia in the World/Nations League. even if they technically deserve to be in top 16 of the World.
  18. I'm still surfing into the results and now I don't think you did quite well in term of gold medals. (I know winning medals in Gymnastics and Athletics are huge achievements and I also saw Indonesia became competitive in so many other sports but I'm only talking about gold medals) out of 31 gold medals, only 6 of them had won in existing events ! the other 25 events had been added into the program only this time and most of them won't stay for the next edition. even though personally I value medals in sport climbing, even though we don't have speed relay even at the World Championships ! Pencak Silat (14), Sport Climbing (3), Paragliding (2), Jet Ski (1) = total 20 gold medals in new sports 1 in Taekwondo but in Poomsae 1 in Rowing but in Lightweight eight which is a new event and we don't have this in any other serious competition (and China didn't enter) 2 in Cycling MTB but in Downhill events which is a new events for AG and beside that from what I heard the organizers didn't let other Cyclists even see the course while host cyclists were training on it. 1 in sepaktakraw but in Quad which is a new event and beside that Indonesia twisted the rules. forcing countries to enter in 2 out of 4 events (instead of 2 out of 3) and they finally found an event where top teams Thailand, Malaysia and even Korea didn't enter. also there is no credit for your gold medal in Karate, that was blatant cheating. your gold medals came from Badminton (2), Wushu (1), Weightlifting (1) and Tennis (1). my point is, if another country was hosting the Games, Indonesia could not win more than 4-5 gold medals. huge difference between 5 and 31 ! I just hope it doesn't become a normal thing for the Asian Games to let the host win much more than what it normally deserves. we never had such a thing in recent years in this scale. even Qatar (which has no shame in cheating) tried to buy athletes instead of adding sports to win some medals back in 2006, they only added equestrian endurance with 2 medals available.
  19. don't know if it had been posted before but here is the final list of qualified wrestlers https://unitedworldwrestling.org/article/wrestling-names-qualifiers-2018-yog-50-nations-set-participate Egypt the only country with full 6 wrestlers.
  20. while we got nothing in senior level and in term of Olympic quotas. at least Iran won two silver medals in junior level first ever world championship medal for Iranian male shooters. and another 4th place for Sadeghian. she missed the medal in Jakarta in the same way.
  21. While surfing the official website I found this https://en.asiangames2018.id/athletes/athlete/BEGUM-Mrs-Kohinur-3014514/ the youngest athlete ever she will born in 2020 !
  22. well done you are my hero can I ask for more videos ? I was wondering what happened to our men's relay team and just watched that. that was a mistake from Ehsan Asrar who left no chance for Alipour cousins to make a comeback. Chinese girl team did the same mistake in bronze medal match vs Iran but since they were MUCH better they still managed to win the bronze. there is a HUGE gap between Indonesia and China with the rest (only Iran men's team was in their level) I still can't understand how come they let countries to enter two teams. it could be at least two bronze medals for Iran
  23. yes it happens so many times, well I think they just copy/paste names from the passports, the problem is the organization who makes these passports. I know the process . they give you a form to write your name in English and whatever nonsense you write that will go to your passport ! they never care to fix possible mistakes. the 2nd part is usually very long and never be used in Iran unless for official documents, I mean if you check the Persian media. you can't find Reza Alipour-Shenazandifar even once. not at all.
  24. in AG for the finals they had 3 direct knockout matches between 6 finalists, winners + the the best loser made it to the semifinal and go on while in the qualification, it was just best of two runs and they sorted athletes based on that. of course I know there is no chance for Alipour, he won't even try the combined event. actually I'm thinking if Japan and Korea complete their quotas before the Asian qualifiers, (that's my question if they are capable of that or not) there will be a slim (but realistic) chance for our climbers , for example in AG, if we exclude Japanese/Korean climbers, Rekabi was 1st in boulder and 2nd in lead , but her very poor result in Speed was costly and she lost the final on tiebreaker to one of Japanese girls.
