  1. it seems Serbia will have 2 finalists at the end of the day ! a mixture of good draw and good performance indeed. btw, 87kg draw is probably the more balanced draw in history of wrestling all 8 wrestlers in quarterfinal are good enough to be here. never saw such a thing before.
  2. yeah that was that rabbit I talked about. actually this is the reserve guy of Kazakhstan (they sent their #1 to Jakarta who won the bronze while Ota won the gold) but refs did a great job keeping the match close. still Ota came back and took the lead but Sultangali had a nice throw at the end to win the match. and this is a very rare thing to see a Japanese protesting to the refs. they usually don't do that
  3. 2 months ago in Jakarta Shinobu Ota beat Mehrdad Mardani by this technique and after 2 months he exactly did the same and won it 9-1 ! Mardani is a very good wrestler but has no chance against this guy. out of 30 other wrestlers in the competition Ota was the only one I wanted Mardani to avoid. and that was exactly what he got in the first round ! that was a dream draw if refs don't pull a rabbit out of their hat. this Japanese guy should go to the final and win the gold medal.
  4. there is but not in just one link. that's complicated lol they just called up Fris on Mat C. you better hurry if you want to watch
  5. It's not only about who gets the control at the end. 1 for blue was correct. Red was never exposed to lose 2pts. expose means your back on the mat or at least with more 90 degree angle. Blue got one point at the end because of his takedown (counter attack takedown means 1pt and not 2) but I also believe Red could get 2 and not 4. they gave him 2+2. the gave him a 2 at the start of the action considered blue as exposed which was dubious to me but the 2nd "2" was indeed correct both of his shoulders touched the mat at the same time. I would give it 2-1 for Red the whole action but well certain countries usually get the calls in dubious situations. 6 came to my mind, South Korea is one of them. plus the host nation (in this case Hungary)
  6. first that was stupid only because JPN was leading the match and you don't want to lose a cheap point (plus your challenge chance) for a situation like this but no that one wasn't dubious. clearly a 2. Japan's knee was on the mat when the action started. That doesn't count as a feet to back 4pts throw. the attacking wrestler himself also has to be in standing position.
  7. I watched it again, the first action was a bit dubious. that also could be a 4 but I think the Russian wrestler's bottom hit the mat first before getting exposed .maybe a millisecond before that . 2 was probably more correct but still they could justify giving him a 4. there is also another way justify the two. the Japanese initial attack failed. then the Russian tried a counter attack turn (which made him the attacker) but he threw the Japanese on his own back. in this case the attacking wrestler gives up 2pts and not 4. this is very clear within the rules the attacking wrestler never gives up 4pts in any case. and yeah you are right about that action in 2nd period. I didn't notice that "blue" made the challenge and not red. that was a very stupid challenge IMO. that was clearly a 2. and 1 for RUS for counter attack takedown. yes they should but they NEVER reset the clock in situations like this . that was just 3 seconds but I had seen situations like someone had a takedown and scored multiple gut-wrench and then after the challenge they found it the original takedown was illegal. therefore they erased all those points but didn't reset the clock ! I'm talking about something like 30 seconds. which is unbelievable. .I'm not sure about this but I think there is nothing in the rules about resetting the clock. UWW officials are not the smartest persons in the world. btw something about the officiating in wrestling , we have 3 officials. center referee, judge (the one in front of the camera) and the mat chairman (the one you don't see usually. sitting behind the camera) the mat chairman is usually the one making the decisions. the other just always watch at him and just do whatever he does. and only few selected UWW officials can sit there as a mat chairman.
  8. well this is it. our misery continues. how come Abdevali managed to lose that is hard to understand. Kus was waiting for the passivity caution for the entire match to do something and of course refs gave that to him. but we are getting use to losing close matches. only one wrestler in bronze medal match. now this is almost a sure thing that we will go home without a gold medal. only bunch of worthless bronze medals.
  9. this is off topic but can you tell me a bit about naming system in Egypt . as a hobby I did research about naming system in all countries , and I know Arabic countries are different . for example in Iraq this is always first name + father name or in Saudi Arabia they usually use Al-something as a kind of surname. but what about Egypt ?! I I saw different terms being used for different persons. for example your legendary wrestler is known as Karam Gaber and not Karam Ibrahim. or for example the former president of Egypt is known as Hosni Mubarak while Mubarak is the last part of his name.
  10. he had a very impressive win over Taleh Mammadov. I don't think he can beat Maryanyan (I hope he does though) but he has a good chance for medal. btw I have a question about his name. his official name is Hassan Hassan Ahmed Mohamed. but you called him just "Hassan Hassan" , is that what you call him in Egypt ? is the 2nd Hassan his father's name ?
  11. Greco semifinalists: 55kg: vs and vs 63kg; vs and vs 72kg: vs and vs 82kg: vs and vs we had some funny unbelievable on-sided draws in freestyle and now we have the same in Greco. I'm starting to think if these draws are random or some UWW magicians are involved in this and I have some reasons to have doubt about this. some countries are exactly in the same position in the draw for 2-3 weights in the same day. the most interesting part is about Hungary. they had two decent wrestlers today and both of them faced dream draw here. (just an accident ?) 72kg draw is more like a joke. Korpasi had to beat only Algeria and Brazil to reach the semifinal ! and even in the semis he will wrestle someone from Bulgaria with an Armenian name I never heard his name before. and the grandpa Bacsi not only had a dream draw but still he needed LOTS of helps from the refs to get through. he won all of his matches 2-1 !!! and I saw two of them only by cautions !!! 55kg draw is no better. but this time even Hungary is in the toughest part of the draw. this kid Azizli looks on fire and I don't think anybody can stop him from winning the gold. even though the Georgian wrestler is also pretty good . I hope Georgia wins since that will put our veteran wrestler into the repechage but that's unlikely. Naderi had his chances against Georgia he was leading 1-1 but gave up a big throw and lost it. in 63, Hajipour lost the opportunity of his life for a medal. he was down 5-0 , had a great comeback made it 6-5 but then gave up a stupid takedown and got eliminated. interestingly we have an Egyptian wrestler in semifinal. but I believe Maryanyian will win the gold for Russia here. 63kg was the only weight today with a balanced bracket (even though the bottom half was a bit tougher) 72, Korpasi is already in the final with that dream draw (unless that Bulgrian guy surprises ) but the second semifinal is very interesting Chunayev vs Stabler. I feel sorry for Geraei, he had a tough draw and I believe he could be the winner against Chunayev. he was all over Chunayev in 2nd period but still they gave him the passivity caution !!! but well I'm getting used to this. Stabler also had a very tough draw. he beat Georgia, Russia and then Zhadrayev in a replay of last year final. I hope Chunayev wins to keep Geraei alive but even with that it will be hard to go through Inoue and Stabler for the bronze. 82, the biggest surprise came from Turkey with Emrah Kus beating the favorite Manukyan (who beat Russia earlier). Kus will face our Abdevali in the semis. I think Abdevali is our only realistic chance for the gold in the whole competiton. (we also have Nouri) I think Kus is a good matchup for Abdevali . but final against Bacsi and the refs will be hard.
  12. The AFC Champions League final will be between Kashima Antrlers from Japan and Persepolis Tehran from Iran. and after 8 years there will be an Iranian team in the final. considering the low budget of Iranian clubs this is getting harder and harder for them to compete with other Asian Clubs. Persepolis is the most popular club in Iran and Asia but this is the first time they are making it into the final. they had much stronger teams before but this is funny they made it this time with a very depleted squad. their Croat coach made something like a miracle. for some stupid reasons FIFA banned them from signing any new players for 2 transfer windows and after the World Cup they also lost some of their NT players. and because of some other injuries they barely have 11 players to start the match ! They had two great comebacks in packed Azadi Stadium in 1/8 final and quarterfinal and last night they beat the Qatari club Al-Sadd 2-1 on aggregate to make it to the final by a miraculous save from Persepolis GK against Xavi's header in last minutes.
  13. Yes , current rules say first day morning: Preliminary rounds up to quarterfinal first day evening: semifinals 2nd day morning: repechage 2nd day evening: bronze and gold finals this is not mandatory . still some minor tournaments use the old one day competition format (e.g. Asian Games) but all major tournaments will follow this system
  14. most people don't know that because most of the times it comes to the last score. btw if you watch the scoreboard , when the score is tie they show a "line" under the score of the winner to show who is leading the match at the time. that's a good thing because in past we had some situations when after the end someone started celebrating but after a minute he was told "sorry you lost it" specially in high scoring matches (for example in case of 10-10) it's hard to remember who scored bigger points.
  15. lol no when your challenge fails you lose a point. but he sent off because he entered the mat and didn't leave it after the first warning. first tiebreaking criteria is the biggest score. for example 2 > 1+1 and in that case Bonne scored a 5 and Rashidov scored 1 five times. 5 > 1+1+1+1+1 the 2nd tiebreaking criteria is the number of cautions. the last score is the 3rd criteria
  16. I'm a bit lazy to watch the match again but I think that's because of a failed challenge from Russia. Bonne was winning it 5-5 so they made a desperate challenge
  17. You are welcome but the problem is since rules are not 100% clear here. all those calls could go the other way easily if they wanted to. I know Japan doesn't cheat in general, that's not a part of their culture (unlike Korea and most of ex soviet countries) but they have someone big in UWW his name is Suzuki (forgot his position) so Japanese wrestlers usually don't get robbed. if he was from India or Cuba I think would give that match to Chakaev. even though I have to admit the officiating was better in general in this tournament. but you better take a look at this one. from Rio Olympics. disgusting, that's shame for this sport https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/olympic-games?tab=match/364/seniors-fs-65-navruzovi-uzb-gomezf-pur/b452aa7f-42be-11e6-8e79-0050569b5d53 this one more or less the same action. but this isn't even dubious. 2 for blue. VERY VERY clear. if you listen to the conversations you can see for yourself. UWW took actions later against some of these guys. banned from the Olympics. (no big deal since that was the last day) The judge from Georgia (the man with white hair) and that big fat Russian in review panel were dirty. no doubt about that, the same group of refs later screwed one of our wrestlers as well. the center ref from Korea at first gave 2pts to blue but then he changed it easily and even when they asked him about his opinion he was insisting on 2 red ! I don't know if he was just stupid or corrupt (probably both). that Spanish lady on review panel tried hard for 2 blue but she had to give up eventually. probably the only "clean person" from 5 officials of that match.
  18. yeah a bit hard for the refs as well. so many dubious situations but I think the final score was just fair. very good officiating. even though they had to be corrected by challenge review panel lol in first action, JPN had a takedown first (a bit dubious if he completed the TD or not. I think he did) then RUS lifted him from the mat and threw him for 4 (that's a 4 not 2 because RUS was on his feet and not sitting on the mat) and then JPN pushed him out of the mat. so 4-3 for Russia was correct. in second action in first period (didn't go to challenge but still the call might be considered dubious) JPN attacked and RUS trying for a turn exposed himself and also JPN but Japanese wrestler's shoulders didn't touch the mat and in this case attacking wrestler doesn't lose point. so 2-0 for JPN was correct. (they gave 4pts to the defensive wrestler in such action even less less dubious than this one in 2016 Olympics in Gomez-Novruzov match which was a big robbery) first action in second period. something more or less similar to the last one. expect this time. RUS wasn't sitting on the mat and when JPN threw him to his back none of them had contact with the mat except their feet. first they gave just 2 to JPN but after the challenge that was 4. which was correct. second action in 2nd period with 30 seconds to go. more or less simllar to the 2nd one. JPN attacked , RUS on defensive mode tried a throw but his back exposed and then he had a takedown. at first they gave 2-1 to JPN after the challenge it was 2-2. but to me the correct call was 2-1. because Takedown on counter attack is just 1pt (and not 2) they gave him 2 justifying that by probably saying JPN also had exposure , to me he didn't. I guess they knew that but since they gave the previous one to JPN and the mafia boss Tedeyev was there. they didn't want to make him very angry ! (later he showed how he will react when he is angry) at 14-10 . RUS on par-terre escaped from the mat very obvious. that's 1pts penalty and continue of the par-terre position in center of the mat. center referee stupidly forgot that and after few seconds they reminded him of the mistake.
  19. Romero the last call was of course dubious (but to me correct) . but that was really heart breaking. she won the bronze medal for few minutes
  20. that was fast good lesson for Snyder to me Sadulaev is the best wrestler in the world right now and maybe in the whole history. and he is still very young.
  21. bronze for Conyedo and Odikadze. finally a bronze for Odikadze after losing something like 1000 times in bronze medal matches now battle of champions
  22. What a mistake by Batirov. he could easily went out of the mat and win the gold 6-6 . even a caution was no problem for him. that was very stupid to lose the gold like that. I thought only Iranian wrestlers are capable of losing like that after all Bahrain used to be a part of Iran
  23. so far, China and Spain won their first ever medal in men's freestyle. and of course Bahrain will win its first ever medal in wrestling in next few hours I don't follow women's wrestling that much but Egypt and Cuba have good chance for their first ever medal in women's wrestling. also Mexico is in medal round with a chance for first ever medal in wrestling in general. even though I think Mongolia is strong favorite here. Conyedo has a very good chance to become the 2nd Italian medalists (after Chamizo) in freestyle wrestling since Giovanni Schillaci back in 1994. (I remember that guy very well in 1996 Olympics lost in semifinal by referees decision) . but one thing is very interesting for me. how come Oliynik is now wrestling for Hungary ? just last year he wrestled for Ukraine ! and as far as I know you have to be inactive for 24 months to switch nationality ! maybe they changed the rules or maybe there is something fishy here.
  24. what a match both wrestlers gave everything they had. I was expecting Bajrang to win the gold but damn who was this guy Otoguro ?! I didn't even know him before yesterday. this is what only Japan capable of. only Japan can send someone completely unknown and win medal. they did that with Higuchi in Rio. or Shinobu Ota. but I don't know if he was injured or faking injury to have a bit rest.
  25. OK guys if you don't believe in miracles . watch this ! American Samoa beating Ukraine in wrestling yeah I know . not by final score but still . first I saw the result I thought that's probably just a walkover or a mistake but no !
