  1. a bit summary of today morning session 61kg: no big upset so far. I was expecting Bonne, Rashidov and Lomtadze in semifinal. for the last one I was thinking about Dubov but he is not young anymore. didn't see his match vs Colon but still 10-0 is surprising. Colon was last minute replacement for team USA . ti will be surprising if he medals here . Rashidov was lucky against Mongolia and the last call was a bit controversial . our young/inexperienced Yakhkeshi almost Bonne. he was better than my expectations but made a dumb mistake at the end. I think we can count on him for the future. this is only his second (or maybe third) time for him leaving Iran to wrestle abroad ! he let Bonne score exactly the same way he always does. vs vs 74kg: Burroughs losing to Sidaov was a bit upset . not a big upset though. Chamizo won 3 easy matches and his first real test will be in SF. hard to predict between these 2. in bottom half that was a bit surprising to see Abdurakhmonov losing in first round .still not a huge upset. Georgia now has 3 wrestlers in semifinal. I think Demirtas will win the SF. about our wrestler. I absolutely had no hope on Hosseinkhani but he almost beat Burroughs. he was the better wrestler the whole match but as usual lost it in last seconds. vs vs 86kg: I talked enough about Yazdani's match. that was probably the only big surpirse of this weight. Taylor looks great and I think he will win the gold. on top half which was very easy Erdin beat Makoev and the rest will be easy for him. Friev also took advantage of his easy draw and now he is one match away from the world medal. vs vs 125kg: Akgul losing to Hadi was a huge surprise. we also had another big surprise Gwiazdowski losing to Deng. having India vs China in SF of heavyweight Wch is a big big surprise but they both got lucky with the draw. specially Sumit. but now he is there. there is a chance for medal. but I expect Deng to win and get a silver at the end. Hadi will face Petriashvili in semifinal. after beating Akgul he is probably full of confidence but Geno is a great wrestler and still I expect him to win this. vs vs
  2. Yes and both Turks are huge favorites to make it to the final.specially Erdin with his super easy draw. I think at least Makoev has no problem winning the bronze.
  3. who said that ? well I never had faith in Hadi but he was very good today. before Akgul he beat Olympic bronze medalist Saidov quite easily. this is his chance to win a medal here. ironically he almost retired from wrestling after Rio 2016 controversy (the way he didn't selected for the team) at least we will have a wrestler for afernoon session ! and Hadi was the last one I was expecting to make it this far.
  4. what a drama. Burroughs-Sidakov match. the last 30 seconds was just wow. first Burroughs took the lead. Sidakov made it 4-3 with a TD. then Jordan madfe a TD made it 5-4 and Sidakov had a pushout with just 1 second to go. 5-5 (later 6-5 with a failed challenge) all these actions in last 30 seconds. and with this Hosseinkhani is officially out. 125kg American guy also lost to China. 10 minutes ago thery were thinking about 4 finalists. now they have only 2 in the SF.
  5. semifinal for today , final for tomorrow
  6. LOL. I would celebrate this if it was the first match of the day . but we had lots of disappointment today. I'm not even happy about this. even though I was sure he is going to lose in last seconds , surprise surprise he didn't. it could be a perfect day for Iran. both Hosseinkhani and Yakhkeshi wrestled actually very well against great opponents but just made stupid mistakes at the end. the other 125 SF will be between China and India !!!! wow ! Hadi beat both of those guys quite easily in Jakarta. and one of them will be in the final. shame of UWW and their stupid draw system.
  7. well. Yakhkeshi was completely dominating Bonne. he was leading 8-6 and Bonne was deadly tired but then all of a sudden he gave up a 4pts throw just with 1 or 2 seconds before the end. looks like they are all learning from Hosseinkhani !
  8. I was about to write about the same match. I can't belive how come they accepted the challenge. Mongolian wrestler was on his 4 and his knee didn't touch the mat before time being expired. that was robbery to me and the Mongolian wrestler was indeed Ganzorig Mandakhnaran. I think everybody should remember him from Rio. such an unlucky guy
  9. You can say exactly the same thing about most of Hosseinkhani's matches. he is always close to win but ends up being the loser ! unless he is leading by more than 3-4 pts otherwise this is a sure thing he is going to lose in last 30 seconds. being a fan of him is like being masochist . even though this time I was fully prepared to see him losing like that. even though I wasn't expecting to wrestle this good against Burroughs. I was expecting a blowout but he just enjoys to always lose like this
  10. I can't believe this. how this is even possible !! Hosseinkhani once again lost in last 30 seconds. no matter who is his opponent. this time against Jordan Burroughs ! no matter how good or bad is his opponent. he always losses in last 30 seconds. this is happening for the 10th time in his career. only if wrestling time was 5:30 instead of 6 minutes he would be World Champion
  11. that Tajik guy is acually Russian. not a piece of cake. but still. I think Chamizo has easy path to the semifinal against Burroughs or Sidakov. personally I hope he wins the gold and I think he will.
  12. perfect coverage from UWW. no sound for some mats. no scoreboard for some mats. you just have to pray for them to go to the left corner of the mat and maybe you can see the scoreboard. even though it's hard for me to even watch the rest of the competition after Yazdani's defeat.
  13. and btw. the officiating was also bad. I have to watch the match again but as far as I see. Taylor had step out of the mat before one of his takedowns. that could be 3pts difference and also in first period. Yazdnai had him under control for 2pts before Taylor took his leg and made a takedown. instead of 2-0 for Taylor it should be 2-1 for Yazdani. it could be 8-1 instead of 6-2 in first period and 9-7 in favor of Yazdani instead of 9-6 for Taylor before that desperate attempt from Yazdani in last seconds which gave up 2 more pts but it doesn't matter . we had seen much worse officiating in wrestling but that step out was very clear to me . shame our coach didn't notice that to challenge.
  14. well he was our only chance for gold medal in freestyle and he is considered something like a big champion here. that will be a terrible news. and this is worse because I also hate Taylor as well and I hope he doesn't make it to the final. (even though that will eliminate Yazdani but for him I don't care about the bronze) the first match is always tricky because the body is not ready yet. Yazdani gassed after just 2 minutes. at some point he has to learn to use his brain as well. you don't have to push at maximum from the start. he usually finishes his match in 2-3 minutes but that's not always possible , you have to have a plan B.
  15. in Iran, he is just known as Amir Hoghoughi. the rest should be ignored btw according to iran federation. they sent a list of 10+2 (reserve) weightlifters to IWF but only 9 of them are here in this list. they already contacted IWF to fix the mistake. Mohammad Zareei, Homayoun Teymouri and Alireza Soleimani are missing here. maybe there is such a mistake for other countries as well.
  16. that's not the only reason. there is another reason . more important. they announced the new weight classes only few months ago. not a year ago and bodyweight matters a lot in this sport. before that we had 90kg and 75kg. huge difference between those weights and 81kg , all 75kg weightlifters now go to 76kg and all 90kg athletes try 87kg (even 90kg was new itself. they made that only a year ago) it's probably hard to fine a high level weightlifter in this weight in such a short time and since results from here will be counted for the Olympic ranking. I guess none of top 75kg weightlifters wanted to try 81 and lost this opportunity of course they probably didn't know the level will be this low ! maybe only the host nation had the preliminary list before being published and that's why they have a weightlifter here in this weight.
  17. I hope Hosseini is fine. I know he had a history of overreacting and sometimes acting about injuries but this one looked a bit serious. I mean he was down by just 4 with still enough time left. he wouldn't withdraw unless that was serious. still no report about it in Iran Taekwondo federation website and they are usually very fast with updates , and Lee Dae-hoon remains undefeated for one more tournament against Iranians. I lost count how many times he beat our athletes not a bad day. silver and bronze. for Mardani I don't expect anything. even bronze is good for him. the problem with Grand Prix is you can't send whoever you want. only top 32 in ranking can participate. and our #1 athletes at 68 and +80 are not in top 32 at the moment ! and we are losing opportunities for qualifying more than 2 athletes for Tokyo.
  18. not really a surprise. this is a non-Olympic weight. a new one and we never had competition around this body weight. it will take time to have some athletes in this weight. and I think non-Olympic weights for women is a very bad idea. at least the number of weightlifters for non-Olympic weights in men's is reasonable.
  19. check here https://unitedworldwrestling.org/event/world-championships-33
  20. just one. UWW website
  21. in wrestling we used to have the draw at the same time as weight-in. so we rarely had first round walkover , but since they changed the rules. now that's possible but since we had some walkovers in past tournaments this year. as far as I know all teams must have a representative during the draw. to make sure they are going to participate
  22. oh yes. I mean the entry record doesn't matter. the list matters actually they can't add a new name to the list (or at least it will be very hard) but this list is not final for example there are 3 Iranians listed at 96kg. obviously only 2 of them will partcipiate very weak team from Iran. we just lost all of our World medalists for different reasons. I think only Moradi and Hashemi are medal favorites here
  23. this Entry list doesn't matter. nothing at all. they will apply their "real" entry record one day before the competition in general meeting.
  24. Aactually less than 9 seconds. he was down by 5. and since he AbuGhash was on 9 penalties. his coach yelled several times at him "don't try to score, try for a kyunggo" but he was lucky he didn't listen to the coach and scored 5 pts in 8 seconds and when the were going for the break before the Golden Score. I heard coach's voice telling him "see, I told you"
  25. brackets are out for tomorrow. only 61kg bracket looks balanced. unbelievably one sided draw in other 3 weights. we will have lots of "lucky medalists" 61kg draw looks OK. Bowne-Rashidov final is more possible. our young wrestler has to deal with Bowne in 2nd round. 74kg, top half is VERY hard. Burroughs and Chamizo are both there and to make things worse we also have Sidakov ! no chance for any other wrestler in top half including our Hosseinkhani, in bottom half things look good for Demirtas. probably Abdurakhmanov is the favorite for the bronze medal. 86kg. the whole year UWW tried to promote a possible Yazdani-Taylor match for possible 86kg final but guess what they got each other right in the first round Kurugliev of Russia is also there !! plus Aminashvili and the Cuban wrestler. couldn't be worse . top half looks empty . good chance for another silver for Makoev of Slovakia or maybe Turkish wrestler. or maybe a lucky bronze for the host nation. 125kg. I barely remember a draw worse than this ! unbelievable . just unbelievable. if I had to name top 8 wrestlers in this weight. 7 of them are in bottom half. and with both Akgul and Geno there. all other wrestlers have no chance for medal already. (including our wrestler Hadi) the American Gwiazdowski will walk into the final easily. and we will have a very lucky bronze medalist there. maybe first ever freestyle medal for China ! or Mongolia.
