  1. watching Bolivia-Portugal in futsal. Bolivia started playing with flying GK very early and conceded two more goals very early at the end of 1st half but the funny thing is they don't even bother to replace the GK when they lose the ball. they just continue like that the final result will be something 20-1 for Portugal if Bolivia continues to play stupid like this. taking risk and trying your best to win the match is something but being stupid and getting humiliated is something else.
  2. IAWF.ir (Iran wrestling) usually posts photo gallery from the competition but most probably tomorrow. not now after midnight you also can check UWW instagram page tomorrow (if you didn't know that yourself) Iran Olympic committee website posted few pictures of today. the whole podium for 65kg but for 110kg. only our wrestler almost in tears on 2nd place !
  3. another silver in wrestling well I didn't expect this at all, if I had to make a prediction before the Games. this was our best gold medal chance but it seems you never can underestimate Russia in wrestling. Zare lost 6-5 and based on the scoreboard it seems he gave up a 4pts throw. it happens when you push your opponents, you also give him a chance to throw you. seriously that's a shame. they didn't even show a single minute of wrestling competition. no medal chance for tomorrow. let's see what we can get in Karate. 6 G - 3 S - 1 B so far. that will be nice if we can stay in top ten in the medal table.
  4. and Karimi lost to Azerbaijan as expected. only silver here. this is our first (and hopefully last ) defeat in wrestling in this YOG. Iran actually qualified 3 freestyle wrestlers but had to pick 2. 110kg was no question but they had to pick between 65kg world bronze medalist (who lost 8-2 in SF to Azerbaijan) or 80kg silver medalist who lost 7-6 to Russia in the final (later upgraded to gold but they didn't know that at the time they had to pick) and in a very stupid decision they picked up 65kg wrestler who lost easily 6-1 today. the only reason they didn't pick Ghiasi at 80kg was what happened at the end of this match. that was kind of punishment . he was leading 6-2 with 10 seconds to go and made a dumb mistake . and with this. Iran just easily threw away a possible gold.
  5. Pakistan beat USA in wrestling and won the bronze !! wow
  6. by a quick calculation. it seems our discus thrower finished 4th here ah. 4th place is the worst possible result NZL, PUR and POL won the 3 medals.
  7. that's right but you also can't compare of the level of WCH with here. in World Champs we have something like 20 wrestlers in each weight. half of them are good to win a medal. while here we have 6 and there are 1 or 2 very weak wrestlers in each weight. of course this is still hard to win the gold because we have top 2 of the world in each weight but sometimes the 3rd medal goes to someone not-that-good. I mean in this level of the competition. Egypt deserved at least 1 or maybe 2 medals in wrestling.
  8. you are weclmoe and btw here is his instagram page thanks I just read that. he had every right to be extremely happy. this medal was completely unexpected . if I had to make a list of our medal chance here. I would put Gymnastics at the bottom of it. we also had a 4th place finish (also in pommel horse) at the Asian Games. so maybe they are improving a bit in this sport (or at least in pommel horse ) btw Gymnastics is the only Olympic sport in Iran (or probably the only sport but I'm not sure) with a woman as the president for the federation.
  9. I really don't think so. you were a bit unlucky here. your 45kg wrestler was very unlucky with the draw. he could win a medal if he was in other group. and your 92kg wrestler was unlucky as well that UWW awarded wild card (or whatever else you can call it) to Turkey ! and from what I heard there were controversial calls in that TUR-EGY match. that could be a silver for Egypt. and even today your 65kg freestyle almost beat our wrestler the final score was just 6-5 ! we will see what you can do in 110kg bronze medal match but losing 10-0 to Zare is not a disaster. Zare is a monster. "experts" in Iran already consider him a huge talent.
  10. hard to say since we can't see anything but If I had to make a prediction now I would expect Mexico to win the bronze. he is Pan American Champion after all.
  11. The system of naming in Iran is exactly the same as western countries. only first name and surname (which comes from father). nothing from the mother's family name BUT sometimes surnames are more than one part. in this case people only and only use the first part because the second part is usually something uncommon and weird for example in this case. you can't find even one report in Iran mention him as Hajlari or Bohloulzadeh-hajlari. he is just Bohloulzade (there should be a H at the end too) probably his grand grand father comes from a village "Hajlar" Iranians didn't use surnames like some other middle eastern countries (Pakistan for example) but almost 100 years ago the former king of Iran (Reza Shah) trying to westernize Iran forced everybody to pick a surname. and most people also put their village/town at the end of their surnames. this is only used for official documents . people NEVER use that in their normal life. of course there are some exceptions . some people prefer to use the 2nd part of their surnames. but in 99% cases this is just the first part.
  12. both freestyle wrestlers made it to the final medal number 9th and 10th for Iran. Zare had easy draw and teched both of his opponents. no surprise he will be favorite for the gold in final against Russia but Karimi surprised me first negatively then positively ! first he almost lost the Egyptian kid. beat him only by 1pt ! and since the American wrestler beat Egypt easily I thought there is no chance for Karimi but then he teched the American guy 10-0 in first period these kids are indeed unpredictable. he will be up in the final against Azerbaijan. he lost to the same wrestler at the World Champs few months ago. I expect 1 gold and 1 silver for today. but I hope for 2 gold obviously
  13. watching the freestyle draw. there are 3 better wrestlers almost in each weight , guaranteed to win the 3 medals. only at 55kg the draw is very unbalanced. we have Japan, USA and Ukraine in the same group !! while Algeria or Argentina will win a silver from other group. freestyle is usually more technical than Greco and therefore more predictable.
  14. actually they did the right thing (as I was suggesting that before) continuing that. this is working for them. why stopping that ? unlike Iraq, Panama simply has no experience playing against power-play. now they feel safer with the 9th goal. I think they will sit back if they score one more.
  15. Argentina played the whole 1st half with empty net (I missed the first 5 minutes though)
  16. a day ago Argentina was TERRIBLE in power play against Iraq but they played brilliant tonight. almost the whole time with flying GK which worked for them. they conceded a stupid goal at the end of 1st half but I think they can score 2 more in 2nd half. Panama simply doesn't know how to defend a 5-man team I wonder if Argentina continues to play like that if/when they reach their goal. I would do that if I was the coach.
  17. and gold for our baby giant his entry was way below two other athletes. this is really surprising. he made all 6 attempts ! considering the fact he is 2 years younger than the rest. he is indeed talented as they were claiming ! 2 very surprising medals in less than 10 minutes I can't ask for more. this completely made up for disappointment in futsal and shooting.
  18. bronze in Gymnastics of all sports ! just wow. that made the day for me.
  19. those 3 had the worst scores in the qualification. no big deal. other 4 matter and I don't think two more will fall 5th place is still a very good result.
  20. I head about a very talented super heavyweight weightlifter that we will see here and he is 15 . two years younger than his opponents. he will most probably win a bronze tonight (unless he bombs out in CJ) but I didn't know he is 163kg ! at the age of 15 ! I could not find a picture of him to see if this is just a mistake by the website (very unlikely) https://www.buenosaires2018.com/results/en/weightlifting/athlete-profile-n1002320-yousefi-alireza.htm
  21. well I would prefer to be good in more than just 2-3 sports. because when you rely on only 2-3 sports and when they get weak sometimes (which happens) that will affect the whole delegation . like 2008 Olympics which was a nighmare with only 2 medals. wrestling was in worst situation ever and our weightlifting got hit by a doping scandal. only Taekwondo won a gold medal that time
  22. I found this on Olympic Channel https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/original-series/detail/land-of-legends-asia-pacific/land-of-legends-asia-pacific-season-season-1/episodes/why-iran-s-pride-and-prowess-in-wrestling-is-unsurpassed/ while the whole clip is interesting but I'm mostly amazed by the short clip at the start of the video. whoever made this video did a FANTASTIC job. if I had to describe Iranian wrestling in few memorable frames almost all of them are here in this video. unfortunately I can't recognize some of those old (black and white) frames except Takhti and Habibi but there are some memorable since 1990. from Alireza Soleimani's gold medal podium in Martigny 1989 (Iran's first gold medal after the Islamic revolution and also first and so far the only gold medal for Iran in Super heavyweight) specially with US and USSR flags under IR's flag (extremists in Iran used that image for their propaganda for a long while) , Majid Torkan's childish celebration after his gold medal in Tokyo 1990, Askari Mohammadian carrying the American legend John Smith on his shoulder after losing to him at the 1992 Olympics final, Alireza Heidari throwing Melvyn Douglas in Takhti Cup in Tehran (first time any American sport team visiting Iran after the revolution), Amir Reza Khadem's famous gut-wrench on Kenny Monday in 1991 Varna, Rasoul Khadem's golden moment in 1996 Olympics with his famous ankle pickup on Makharbek Khadartsev in the final (Iran's first Olympic gold after 28 years), Alireza Dabir and his famous singlet at the 2000 Olympics and of course the legendary Sourian and his gut-wrench on Bayramov in London 2012. they only used "positive" frames. only victories , I only would add Norouzi's famous throw on his coach after the Olympic gold. otherwise the video is just perfect. brought back some memories for me.
  23. This is really sad Iran completely missed this round of Karate 1. and unfortunately we will hear news like this A LOT in future. financial situation looks terrible for most of sports federation in Iran. outside of multisport evens (which will get direct financial support from the government) why will rarely participate in international competitions.
  24. At the end of the Games we had 33 countries on the medal table (including COR) for Iran that was the best Games ever, 3rd place in medal table (Iran was 4th in 2010 and 2014) only 2 gold medals behind Korea in 2nd place. and Iran won gold medal for men in all 3 team sports (Goalball, Basketball and Volleyball) I could barely follow the Games but only watched the wheelchair basketball final today morning which was quite a match. Iran by a last seconds basket 68-66. one thing that makes APG/Paralympics less enjoyable is the number of events in athletics and swimming. even though this team we had huge number of events in badminton and chess as well ! I wonder how come they had 19 events in badminton ! for example Iran won 51 gold medals here but more than half of them, 27 in athletics !! 6 in swimming (all of them by one swimmer Shahin Izadyar), 4 in Chess, 4 in powerlifting, 3 in shooting, 2 in judo. 2 in archery plus 3 team sports. personally I value much more medals in shooting, Judo, archery and team sports.
  25. this is already the best YOG for Iran in term of medals. we had 5 medals in 2010 (2 gold) and 6 in 2014 (3 gold) now we already have 5 gold and 1 silver. and I'm almost sure about one more gold in freestyle wrestling. and there is still Karate with 5 medal chances for Iran. (plus one possible medal in weightlifting) not a surprise Iran dominated 2018 World Youth Championship in Taekwondo and Wrestling (both Greco and freestyle) BUT I'm disappointed about other sports results. it looks like we will never improve in some sports this is really disappointing to win medals always in only 3 sports (this time 4 because of Karate) even at the YOG our swimmer finished 28th which is OK result for itself but the problem is this guy is a member of Iran senior team as well and participated at the Asian Games a month ago. in other word the best swimmer in Iran can't even make it to the semifinal at the Youth Olympics ! at least last time in Nanjing we had a gold medal in Judo. here It's almost a sure thing we won't win any medal outside of those 3+1 sports.
