  1. yeah a bit hard for the refs as well. so many dubious situations but I think the final score was just fair. very good officiating. even though they had to be corrected by challenge review panel lol in first action, JPN had a takedown first (a bit dubious if he completed the TD or not. I think he did) then RUS lifted him from the mat and threw him for 4 (that's a 4 not 2 because RUS was on his feet and not sitting on the mat) and then JPN pushed him out of the mat. so 4-3 for Russia was correct. in second action in first period (didn't go to challenge but still the call might be considered dubious) JPN attacked and RUS trying for a turn exposed himself and also JPN but Japanese wrestler's shoulders didn't touch the mat and in this case attacking wrestler doesn't lose point. so 2-0 for JPN was correct. (they gave 4pts to the defensive wrestler in such action even less less dubious than this one in 2016 Olympics in Gomez-Novruzov match which was a big robbery) first action in second period. something more or less similar to the last one. expect this time. RUS wasn't sitting on the mat and when JPN threw him to his back none of them had contact with the mat except their feet. first they gave just 2 to JPN but after the challenge that was 4. which was correct. second action in 2nd period with 30 seconds to go. more or less simllar to the 2nd one. JPN attacked , RUS on defensive mode tried a throw but his back exposed and then he had a takedown. at first they gave 2-1 to JPN after the challenge it was 2-2. but to me the correct call was 2-1. because Takedown on counter attack is just 1pt (and not 2) they gave him 2 justifying that by probably saying JPN also had exposure , to me he didn't. I guess they knew that but since they gave the previous one to JPN and the mafia boss Tedeyev was there. they didn't want to make him very angry ! (later he showed how he will react when he is angry) at 14-10 . RUS on par-terre escaped from the mat very obvious. that's 1pts penalty and continue of the par-terre position in center of the mat. center referee stupidly forgot that and after few seconds they reminded him of the mistake.
  2. Romero the last call was of course dubious (but to me correct) . but that was really heart breaking. she won the bronze medal for few minutes
  3. that was fast good lesson for Snyder to me Sadulaev is the best wrestler in the world right now and maybe in the whole history. and he is still very young.
  4. bronze for Conyedo and Odikadze. finally a bronze for Odikadze after losing something like 1000 times in bronze medal matches now battle of champions
  5. What a mistake by Batirov. he could easily went out of the mat and win the gold 6-6 . even a caution was no problem for him. that was very stupid to lose the gold like that. I thought only Iranian wrestlers are capable of losing like that after all Bahrain used to be a part of Iran
  6. so far, China and Spain won their first ever medal in men's freestyle. and of course Bahrain will win its first ever medal in wrestling in next few hours I don't follow women's wrestling that much but Egypt and Cuba have good chance for their first ever medal in women's wrestling. also Mexico is in medal round with a chance for first ever medal in wrestling in general. even though I think Mongolia is strong favorite here. Conyedo has a very good chance to become the 2nd Italian medalists (after Chamizo) in freestyle wrestling since Giovanni Schillaci back in 1994. (I remember that guy very well in 1996 Olympics lost in semifinal by referees decision) . but one thing is very interesting for me. how come Oliynik is now wrestling for Hungary ? just last year he wrestled for Ukraine ! and as far as I know you have to be inactive for 24 months to switch nationality ! maybe they changed the rules or maybe there is something fishy here.
  7. what a match both wrestlers gave everything they had. I was expecting Bajrang to win the gold but damn who was this guy Otoguro ?! I didn't even know him before yesterday. this is what only Japan capable of. only Japan can send someone completely unknown and win medal. they did that with Higuchi in Rio. or Shinobu Ota. but I don't know if he was injured or faking injury to have a bit rest.
  8. OK guys if you don't believe in miracles . watch this ! American Samoa beating Ukraine in wrestling yeah I know . not by final score but still . first I saw the result I thought that's probably just a walkover or a mistake but no !
  9. I think Oliynik will be favorite against both Conyedo or the Mongolian but I believe Conyedo has a chance . Oliynik is not such a great wrestler. if i'm not wrong he left Ukraine because he could not make their national team here.
  10. so again we will have a great final at 97kg. Kyle Snyder vs Abdulrashid Sadulaev can't wait to see this . wrestling fans were lucky that stupid random draw didn't put these 2 in the same half and we can see the real final in the final. even tough Sadulaev was indeed in a tougher bracket but I'm sure he doesn't care about the draw I think he will beat Snyder this time Odikadze will wrestle for bronze ONCE again. he finished 5th in WCh so many times before. I hope poor guy wins a bronze this time at least. he got lucky against Alborov though
  11. time for the local hero Oliynik ! well local only if you consider Ukraine as a part of Hungary. the host nation doesn't want to leave the freestyle competition without a medal. so they got help from Ukraine
  12. first ever world medal for Bahrain I'm sure the whole Bahrain will be proud of "Adam Batirov". well this guy failed to medal at the Asian Games and he is going to the final easily here !! just show how much draw was terrible in this weight. this will be all Russian final. Gazimagomedov vs Batirov.
  13. Synder didn't impress in his first match. actually at some point he was 3-1 down with 2 minutes to go. he found a way eventually to score multiple takedowns. he is a 3 time World/Olympic Champion but he never made me feel he is unbeatable or something. some below average Iranian wrestlers had close matches with him and one of them even beat him. but he somehow knows how to win when it matters. Conyedo won't have it easy in repechage against Mongolia and the Canadian guy beat Mechedlidze !! maybe we should not underestimate him. about Chamizo. you should remember he is now wrestling with guys heavier than himself. it takes time to adopt to the new weight class. each weight class has its own style of wrestling. he will be fine but I think he had wrong strategies in both matches. Sidakov was very beatable for him. btw who is his coach ? I assume there is no local high level freestyle coach in Italy. but his coach rarely talks to him from what i see. some Iranian wrestling experts recognizes him as Murad Gaidarov which is a bit surprising for me.
  14. James Green losing to Mongolia made things complicated regarding the team title. now there is a chance for Russia ! last year in Paris it came to the last match between Snyder and Sadulaev. quite possible having the same situation this year too . even though Sadulaev has couple of tough matches ahead of him before the final. this guy Alborov (Russian representing Azerbaijan) is no joke . he beat Snyder before and beat our wrestler like a baby earlier in the morning. interesting note, Sadulaev beat Nurov from Macedonia in first round (who is originally Russian), then he beat Mamed Ibragimov from Kazakhstan (who also originally from Russia). it's possible for him meeting Magomed Ibragimov from Uzbekistan (again from Russia !!) in quarterfinal and then Alborov in semifinal !! they are all from Russia. it means he has to beat 4 Russian wrestlers for going to the final there is a medal chance for Italy too. Conyedo made it to the QF vs Snyder.
  15. There are/were lots of bad calls. biased officiating. bribing etc in wrestling but that one was actually the correct call. not even dubious . this is wrestling not Karate you can't "run" on the mat . it doesn't matter who was the better wrestler. there are rules against "running" like that in wrestling. what Ganzorig did in last 10 seconds deserved a penalty caution , no doubt about it btw Novruzov didn't deserve that medal at all, there was a robbery in one of his matches, but not this one. but against Franklin Gomez of Puerto Rico which was unbelievable.
  16. quick day for Iran. terrible, shameful. Emami made it 5 !!! 5th match we lost in last 10 seconds here. this time that was a phantom call indeed .but it doesn't matter. his Russian-born Slovak opponent was very weak in my opinion. he had no chance after all. and Goleij really ashamed Iranian wrestling losing 10-0 in less than 2 minutes !! he lost with the same score in the same way to the same guy couple months ago. hard to believe Goleij is a World Junior and World U23 Champion . this year he was extremely terrible even during Iranian nationals.
  17. checking draws for tomorrow. I noticed something interesting. Ricardo Adrian Baez is the first wrestler in history competing in two weight classes in the same style in one World Championship ! he lost 13-0 to our Karimi today at 92kg and since he came to Hungary why not trying my chance at 97kg another early exit for him against Oliinik (Ukrainian now representing Hungary) but still he will make history if he shows up on the mat tomorrow, I think I wrote about such a stupid rule in World Juniors (that was a mistake by me, two different wrestlers with the same name) but this time this is really one wrestler in two different weights !
  18. No, I don't think they have any intention to change that. highly unlikely . I'm 99% sure about that
  19. that was a decent draw comparing to 125kg I read an article about today matches, a bit exaggeration probably but something like "both Taylor and Petriashvili will have their easiest match of the competition in the final"
  20. I would vote Taylor as the best wrestler of the tournament so far and he clearly deserved it. but that's not really correct. Yazdani was dominating him until he gassed . no excuse that's part of the game but it wasn't like he was dominating or something. Yazdani needs to learn some strategies. he does the same thing against all opponents. and if he can't finish it in 3-4 minutes. he is in trouble. I just hope he learns from this. that was a good learning lesson.
  21. yeah he was the coach behind the coach noticed that later he is their head coach. a friend of Putin himself. he owns UWW. banning him after the red card is the normal penalty but they can't even do that bullying the ref worked well for them to make sure nothing bad will happen in the next final. and now we have two back to back matches vs Russia. our guys should be careful.
  22. the Russian coach Dzhambulat Tedeyev is probably banned for the rest of the competition because he received a red card. he is not in the corner for 74kg final I didn't expect a close match. Sidakov won the gold but I'm very surprised by Kentchadze's performance here. and that 2pts for Sidakov was indeed controversial. Kentchandze stepped out first . Sidakov pulled him back to the center of the mat and completed his take down since that wasn't the continue of the previous action they should gave him just 1pt. I assume the Georgian coaches didn't notice that to make a challenge.
  23. well well. controversial call in favor of Abdurakhmanov. he was running faster than Ussain Bolt here. I would give him caution and 1 pt (to Demirtas) but well center referee even stopped the match in last few seconds for a stupid warning. helping Abdurakhmanov in fact.
  24. Chamizo is a 2time World Champion and an Olympic medalist. he is also star of the past but I think he is still small for this weight. he will get better in next couple of years. I think Chamizo had tactical mistakes in both semifinal and final. he could win the gold instead of going home empty handed
  25. it seems USA is going to win the team title for the 2nd year in a row. they are well ahead of Russia right now. and they are also 4-0 against Iranian wrestlers. 2 bronze medals so far. Taylor and Gwiazdowski also will win their matches. which means 1 gold and 3 bronze today and they have 2 finalists (both of them will win the gold 90%) and 1 in bronze medal match for tomorrow. this current weight-in rule is perfect for them (since they have the same system for their own competition for a long time) but this is not just it. they are also very good technically. and you can't tire them down . I think they are going to finish it with 8 or 9 medals !
