  1. unfortunately there is nothing in the rules against registering like this and withdrawing. and for "registering" you have to participate in weight-in and make weight which he did . that's all he had to do to fulfill one of those 6 qualification events.
  2. no he will not. that's a sure thing. he already filled the withdrawal paper
  3. he is not going to lift that. that's just for show. he will withdraw. he just registered here because he has to register in 6 IWF events for Olympic qualification.
  4. They should really bring back the scoring system for Kata, it's OK to keep the knockout format as it is but this is stupid that refs only have to declare winner by just a flag. I would like to see a score like 9.88 to 9.50 instead of just a 5-0 ! I know Kata is essential in Karate but having JPN-ESP in all 4 team and individual finals just shows how predictable this is. Iran will be in men's team Kata bronze medal match vs Turkey. even though Turkey will be huge favorite here still it's good to have a representative in a Kata medal match. to me there are so many problems with Karate competition 1) time of the competition, to me having 4 minutes (for both men and women) plus 1 minute of extra time will be fine. 2) format of the competition, having all finals at the same day is not a good idea. they just can have 2-3 events per day with finals in evening. 3) the way they start and finish one event before moving to another one. just doesn't make sense. they can finish the 1st round of event A and then go to 1st round of event B and so on. with this athletes will have enough time to recover between their matches. right now sometimes there is less than 5 minutes rest. 4) scoring system in Kata as I explained
  5. in Top 7 yes, but the South Korean 8th placer (upgraded to 2nd) also has a clean record. maybe he wasn't just there. it's not necessary to attend a ceremony to receive your medal. they can just send it to your home. and as I asked before, no idea if Zielinksi really receives anything. funny that Ilya Ilyin himself was there in Ashgabat when they were awarding "his medal" to someone else
  6. it seems Mohammadpour wasn't the only weightlifter receiving his medal in Ashgabat, Gulnoi (THA, 2012) and Ulanov (KAZ, 2016) also received their medals. https://www.iwf.net/2018/11/08/three-lifters-awarded-olympic-medals/ interesting that they only awarded the gold medal in that weight where all 3 medalists are disqualified now. no silver and bronze ?
  7. well he was part of the gangs boycotted the team in 2013 and he was always injured since then. this is how he got injured during the trial competition in Iran, he was preparing for 2015 Wch if I'm not wrong https://tamasha.com/v/JZkn
  8. nice try but he is just Derafshipour, that's one word no space missing this time (-pour is a suffix actually)
  9. well no I think Karate is better , because it's too fast, comparing to Taekwondo. in taekwondo nowadays most coaches use it as a kind of "time out"
  10. Saeid Mohammadpour finally received his gold medal from 2012 London Olympics officially today in Ashgabat after 6 years ! he originally finished 5th but top 4 all tested positive for doping I assume this is kind of a record to be upgraded from 5th place to gold medal. this is a picture of him on the "podium"
  11. since we have high level of technology here in Iran , even papers can be hacked there is a saying in Iran. an old one which says "Art could only be found among Iranians" apparently Art is not the only thing
  12. so at the end of the day , only 3 of 6 Iranians made it to the final round. total of 5 . 2 for the gold. 3 for bronze. if all of them win their finals (which is almost impossible) this will equal our results in 2016 !!! (I mean for individual events, we also had a gold medal in team kumite) which is good because we know since Karate made it to the Olympics the level is much higher this time. out of the women's team only one of them made it to the bronze medal match, surprisingly that was Sara Bahmanyar ! I didn't even know her until an hour ago when I googled a bit about her she lost to the Turkish world champion in last 10 seconds so it seems she has a realistic chance for medal against Russia. here is the summary of the finals for the Iranians Gold medal matches Men's 75kg: Bahman Askari vs Luigi Busa Men's +84kg: Sajjad Ganjzadeh vs Jonathan Horne Bronze medal matches Women's 50kg: Sara Bahmanyar vs Tatiana Rybalchenko Men's 67kg: Hamoun Derafshipour vs Raul Cuerva Men's 84kg: Zabihollah Poursheib vs Daniyar Yuldashev
  13. and another thing. why the hell they have to start and finish one weight before moving to another one ?! sometimes they force athletes to fight with less than 5 minutes rest because of this they easily can finish the 1st round in all weights, then move to 2nd round for all weights , the same as other fighting sports.
  14. Mehdizadeh out vs Morocco and I don't think that guy can go all the way to the final . this is most probably the end for Mehdizadeh. he gave up 5pts in last 20-30 seconds to lose it 9-4. maybe it's time to find a replacement for him. this is the only weight we don't have much depth in it.
  15. I was watching it and it was impossible to pick any of them. they did nothing. none of them. there are 2 things I can't understand about the rules. 1st) why women's competition are 1 minute shorter ?!!!! 2nd) why not extra time with golden score or something like that ?!! we used to have it almost 15 years ago
  16. haha yeah but he beat Douglas Brose in the first round. maybe he is good after all
  17. well that miracle just happened, she beat Yamada on Hantei and screamed like hell after the win it will be Germany vs Poland in the final
  18. I like to see such a competition but winning the gold medal comes first. it's not like we can win more than 10 golds in the Olympics. Moradi is one of our few Olympic gold medal chances. but maybe this is too early to talk about the Olympics. Moradi is not young, let's see if he can keeps his current shape for the Olympics after all !
  19. oh yeah the website sucks but I got some results from Iran Karate federation page, they say the Iranian girl is back in repechage since Yin made it to the final.
  20. I hope so because Tian Tao is so unpredictable. you never can say "OK this is too much for him he won't lift this" I know in China they care more about winning the gold medal. so I assume they will pick someone with a good chance for gold (but also possible to win nothing) over a safe silver medal. during 2014 AG, where Tian Tao was almost unknown at the time, Rostami finished his competition with 380kg and already shaking hands with others as the gold medalist. Tian "after failing 211" tried 218 (equal to WR at the time) and made it. Rostami's face was funny at the time, he collapsed on his chair. you never can say never with Tian Tao. he almost pulled out something like that in Rio 2016 but this time Rostami had one more attempt saved to come back and win the gold.
  21. of course I know that's why I said he will be tougher next time. btw what's his chance to get selected for the Olympics ? I know China can send only 4 but I assume he is a strong candidate to fill one of those 4 slots. or maybe China decides to send 4 weightlifters in 4 lightest weights , that's what I hope for
  22. since the official livescore is a mess, this is the list of finals so far Men's 67kg: FIGUEIRA VINICIUS vs DACOSTA STEVEN Men's 75kg: ASGARI BAHMAN vs BUSA LUIGI Women's 61kg: YIN XIAOYAN vs PREKOVIC JOVANA
  23. Derafshipour had couple wins on Hantei but he ran out of luck in semifinal against France. he will fight for bronze. so far 4 out of 4 made it to the medal round in men's kumite, 2 for gold ,2 for bronze. the last one is the defending World Champion Amir Mehdizadeh. but the female team is really bad here. 3 out of 4 lost in the first round ! only Alipour could go to the QF where she lost to China and since China made it to the final she will be alive in repechage. still not a great chance for her.
  24. I didn't expect Tian Tao to really challenge Moradi but he did. I think Moradi wasn't totally focused today. he should made that 237kg but 3 gold medals and 3 WRs. this is a great result. but this guy Tian will be tougher next time, Sohrab better more prepared.
  25. hmmm, he could lift more if he wouldn't miss that 2nd attempt because of a technical mistake. he was definitely capable of much more. but gold medal in snatch and world record. can't ask for more
