  1. well maybe he needed one safe attempt (even tough to be honest even 217 was safe for him ) 2nd attempt to break the WR and 3rd attempt to increase it. I mean it makes sense from his points of view. but of course I wanted to see more like you. maybe he is thinking about a very good WR in total , and he didn't risk for a big jump in snatch. speaking of real "WR" when they erased all records in 1998, people only remembered those old records for couple years and then like it never happened before.. Talakhadze probably had that in mind. personally I think they should keep the super heavy weight WRs. obviously there is no difference between +105kg and +109kg
  2. I'm sure he had that in mind when he chose 211kg and not anything else. OK even 217kg was too easy for Lasha, I wonder if there is any limit for him. he could lift 221 today if IWF didn't erase the old WRs.
  3. Minasyan had this chance to be WR holder for 1 minute but he missed it
  4. now there is a good chance for Brazil to win a medal at least in snatch Edit: not anymore Djangabaev made it !
  5. and Talakhadze is warming up with 200kg like this is nothing
  6. not bad for Ali Davoudi, World Junior Record but it looked like he is capable of more than 197kg.
  7. Askari that was very close for years he could not make the national team , this year he made it and won both the Asian Games and the World Championships.
  8. Only silver for Ganjzadeh he had the lead 2-0 and was in control until a 3pts ippon for Horne which was too strong and almost knockout out Ganjzadeh. he was just a shadow of himself for the rest of the match. he was still dizzy. I'm no expert in this but based on what I know about Karate I don't think you are allowed to kick with maximum strength in Karate, you have to keep things under control. I think they should not really gave that 3pts to Horne but that's it and even coaches can't challenge decisions like that for video review. this was only up to the center referee to decide. so Askari is our only chance for an individual gold and unlike Ganjzadeh he is not going to be the favorite for the final against Busa.
  9. surprising (but deserving) medal for Bulgaria beating Japan in bronze medal match. 14 bronze medals for 12 different countries, only Egypt and Turkey won 2. now we will have the finals
  10. another medal for Poursheib
  11. 0-0 and SVK won by Hantei. Congrats
  12. I don't know the exact rule here but maybe she deserved a DQ, she was lucky they just gave her a Hansoku Chui, you are not supposed to break someone's nose in this sport !! btw thanks a lot for the link
  13. I'm watching it , still hard to say, she looked a bit confused . maybe they wanted her to beat Perez of VEN and just hope for one of those top 2 to bombs out but even if that's true still 1) why not trying 140kg in 2nd attempt and saving the last one for catching up the DOM girl ?! 2) both 139 and 140 was too easy for her. she was surely capable of more.
  14. I think Chilean coaches just beat Russia and Armenia in being the dumbest ! they deserved a trophy for that ! what the hell was that !?
  15. Iran advanced to the bronze medal match in women's team Kumite. still pity they could beat Japan and go all the way to the final. but even bronze will be great. I assume they will be favorite against Spain but host nation is always dangerous. so at the end of the preliminaries. we have 3 chance for gold (Ganjzadeh and Askari in men's individual Kumite plus the team kumite). and 5 for bronze. (Poursheib and Derafshipour in men's individual Kumite, Bahmanyar in women's Ind. kumite, women's team Kumite and men's team Kata)
  16. 90kg was very new, we had that for 1 or 2 years . that's why records were extremely low there. still yeah I think the standards are too high for this 87kg. they will remain for a while. before that it was 75kg and +75kg. most top weightlifters above 75kg probably was much heavier than 87kg to compete in this weight. it will take a while to have some quality weightlifters in this weight.
  17. 6th place is not bad for Barari considering his level but he had a chance for bronze. first that was a mistake making a big jump for last attempt in snatch and they did the same in CJ. and btw even 222 was enough for bronze total for him. not 226. even though they didn't know that the time, but still it's' better to try your luck with something within your strength instead of trying something crazy. and Moradi at 96kg still could win a medal here I wonder how these guys feel when they train together. watching Moradi (despite being lighter) lifting much much more than them !
  18. wow. Martirosyan made up for all those dumb moves from other Armenian weightlifters. even 240 was easy for him
  19. now there is a great chance for Iraq to medal here !
  20. what a pity. Iran lost to Japan in a very close match, before the last match for Alipour Iran was leading 1-0 and Alipour herself was leading 1-0. but lost it 2-1 in last 10 seconds and in extra match between Abbasli and Uekusa they finished 0-0 and Japan won by Hantei.
  21. Yes. only the opening attempts
  22. and btw in case you guys think Martirosyan is stupid to start with 230kg which I believe he is. he can't lower the weight. because his entry was 440kg he can't start lower than 420kg. 230kg will be the gold medal lift for him. this will be gold or nothing most probably.
  23. I think this is the first time in career he bombed out.
  24. Iran in team kumite final again despite not being an Olympic event still team kumite is a very prestigious . Iran won this title in 2014 and 2016 and now there is a chance to win it for the 3rd time in a row. Iran had an easy draw until the semifinal where they beat Italy 3-0 thanks to Askari, Asiabari and Ganjzadeh winning their matches . the final will be between Iran and Turkey.
  25. Hashemi is a two time World Champion now this is great for an average weightlifter like him. we had so many much better weightlifters had to retire with only 1 or 2 bronze or silver. happy for Beiralvand and his bronze medal. that last CJ lift was unexpected. and Sohrab Moradi at 96kg lifted 20kg more than Hashemi here
