Indian Gopal Anbarasu finishes 12th ..... we are now positioned 8th after two weight categories ...unless we have an unlikely hero in the heavier weight categories maybe Satish Sivalingam ............... we may be without a men's quota ............. Women's team did not have a weight lifter in this categories today ....was a little surprised as I expected Matsa Santoshi to be present in the 53 kg women ( and would be part of the Indian 4 women numbers ) along with the Punam Yadav in the 63 kg category ..................... let us see who would be the 4th then for India .................. some new weightlifters so hoping for good things from them in the women ...... Vietnam going strong but I expect India to come first or second amongst the qualifiers and definitely qualify and will definitely send Mirakhom who may then be a medal prospect in the 48 kg category at Rio

I was wondering if we can put this information in the first page of the India Page ..........Like we used to in the events of the week section ( in the old totallyolympics ) ....and update this every week ( so that we have one location where we check the latest week events ) ... also I think we can add to this list the atheletics federation cup April 28-30 ..... which may be critical for one or two qualifications

due to the power outage ...these marks were done using hand held equipment ............. ( our officials bungled once again ) ....................... The marks do not hold as handheld equipment is not counted for any international marks ......and also hand held timing is notoriously inaccurate for shorter sprints ........................................... I am sure they should be free of doping as they being coached by Kunjarani who was the mary kom of womens weightlifting ...... a legend who was also tested and retested without even the slightest signs of doping ..... I get scared of the east european coaches .................

as per Wikipedia ...India get 2 and 3 spot ( amongst the Olympic qualifiers list ) in women's 48 kgs weight category at the Asian qualifiers in weightlifting ...if correct this almost ensures our qualification in the weightlifting women's with 48 points already ..........................

I seem to be seeing in wikipedia some results coming for the womens 48 kg but I am not able to get anything on the IWF site ???....any place where you can see this

After seeing the level of our wrestlers in the Greco barring a very slight chance in 59 rest looks tough almost impossible .................. In the freestyle three lower quotas closed ................... only satyawart has a chance ............... so main hopes may be from the women ...they seemed to be doing OK and they met the end winner in almost 3 cases in the quarters ...... also vinesh over weight was a blow ... I feel we can hope for 1 women's quota ......................between . Vinesh , Geeta , Babita and Jyoti

slight good news in shooting ...... mairaj seems to be doing well after day 2 ...... he is joint third with 5 others in skeet ...hopefully he continues to shoot well in the final day and we may have our second finalist ......................

finallly some news of seema antil and krishna poonia ....................she finished second at the hartnell throwers meet with a throw with 58.86 m ...with the A qualification at 61m she still has some way to go ..................... but a good start ...also news that krishna Poonia ( who I thought retired ) is making a comeback .................. I am hoping that we have 1 ( or 2 ) qualifiers in womens discus as both are easily capable of breaking the 61 m mark ...................................

First - let me say it is impossible for three golfers from India to qualify ....as per the rules .................. All players within the top-15 of the rankings as of July 11, 2016, will be eligible, with one big caveat: No more than four players can come from any one country. The rest of the field will be determined by the world golf rankings, with a maximum of two players per country for countries that don't have more than two players in the top-15. we have no players in the top 15 so no chance of more than 2 ....both SSP and Anirban will qualify easily as per the latest list ( check out gvaisakh list) ....I do not think in two months that they will drop out of the top 60..so they are almost sure to participate .... Normally olympics are often a little easier than the world championships ................................... partly it is because with a limited set of 30 or so shooters compared to a world championships within 80or more shooters........................ it is easier to make the finals

I found the comments a little difficult to digest ...... semenya has been tested and allowed to participate under the rules..................... Unlike some of the drug freaks ...she was born the way she was ................... to say that she is disgusting is to say that a seven feet basketball player idisgusting .... they have some form of physical harmones which can cause an athelete to have an advantage ............................. once the law has been decided and she has been allowed to play as per the law ...then just admire the fact that she is a great talent and let her play ...........................

as the difficulty level increases , it is more and more difficult to get the execution right ( with a produnova it is almost i possible to get a 9 in execution as you tend to lose some points for your posterior touching the floor ) ...................... she did improve her vault scores significantly though she had 14.683 in the world championships ...now she had 14.833 which is almost close to the 4th position at the world championships .... I am sure till now she must have been focussing on the all round to get through to rio ( and she had a great improvement of 2.7 ) ................... with the TOPS scheme she will focus on the vault and get more training ........................ but full credit to her coach Nandi who has dedicatedly brought her to this world class level
