  1. Really happy that both our teams won their groups, especially since they both had draws (it feels like we always lose out on GD in these situations in all sports, so I'm surprised it worked out in our favour for once). Tbh we should've beaten Croatia and our women should've beaten Spain so it's pretty nice, especially as our teams are quite young. I don't want to underestimate AUS/USA although another medal here after one in Tokyo last year would be quite special!
  2. Apostolos Christou 4th in the men's 50 backstroke (after finishing 5th in the 100). Another great result for Greek swimming, but once again he swam faster in the semifinal than in the final
  3. Not a real event, but 38 yo Antigoni Drisbioti became the oldest Greek to set a national record, this time in the 5000m walk (she also did it earlier this year in the new 35k walk as a 37 yo). With 21:06.40, she broke Christina Deskou's record from 1999 (21:37.78).
  4. 9th time in a row that our girls are through to the quarterfinals We needed to beat France by 11 or more. We led 13-4 with less than two minutes to go, then our 17 yo Christina Siouti and 19 yo Eirini Ninou each scored to make it 15-4 and give us first place in the group
  5. It's surprising that each country can only send two participants in each event instead of three. Was it always this way? I don't remember. The Greek team consists of 48 athletes in total. We had around 80 with standards. In some events we had 7 or 8 with standards but only two got selected due to these limits
  6. Rafailia Spanoudaki is out. She just tested positive for Covid, so she will miss the Greek National Championships this weekend. She would've been the heavy favourite to win both the 100m and 200m, which would have given her a lot of points to move up in the Race to Oregon ranking and probably she would've qualified in the 200m. I think this might be the first time ever where we don't qualify anyone in a women's track event, or any track event for that matter. The only chance is for one of our young hurdlers (Anais Karagianni in 100H and Dimitra Gnafaki in 400H) to get a big PR this weekend and sneak in via ranking. And both already got PRs recently (Karagianni has gone from 13.31 to 13.15 this season, and Gnafaki from 57.00 to 56.67), so I'm not sure how realistic it is that they'll be able to improve so much in so little time.
  7. 2022 Wimbledon Women's singles qualifying: First round: Priscilla Hon AUS d. Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE 2-6 6-4 7-5 First round: (22) Despina Papamichail GRE d. Eva Lys GER 3-6 6-3 6-2 Second round: Natalija Stevanovic SRB d. (22) Despina Papamichail GRE 6-2 6-4
  8. Water polo at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships – Women's tournament Preliminary Round - Group D 10 - 10 Kserei kaneis giati leipei h Eleftheriadou apo thn fetinh omada?
  9. So just like London and Rio, our promising young rowing team from Tokyo is starting to fall apart... To recap, we had: A 24 yo win gold in M1X (Stefanos Ntouskos) A 22 yo finish 10th in W1X (Anneta Kyridou) Two 20 yos finish 5th in W2- (Christina Bourmpou and Maria Kyridou) The Kyridou sisters have both been banned from the national team because their mother posts in a Facebook group criticising the federation... Meanwhile the sisters have been training hard all year long in the women's pair together and we won't even get to see them in any competition. They would have a good chance to win a medal in Paris you would think. Such an embarrassing disgrace what is happening. The federation is a joke...
  10. 8-8 A bit disappointing, we led 4-1 after the first period but allowed Croatia to come back. It's not a horrible result although it's a bit disappointing. Also seems like this Russian player Croatia naturalised is really making a difference for them.

  12. The Greek sisters competing for Austria who weren't good enough for our team several years ago, are now doing better than our girls
  13. Water polo at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships – Women's tournament Preliminary Round - Group D 28 - 1
  16. 2022 European Cadets (U17) Wrestling Championships: GOLD Arionas Kolitsopoulos (Men's Greco-Roman 65 kg) BRONZE Dimitris Thanos (Men's Greco-Roman 110 kg) Nikoleta Barba (Women's Freestyle 69 kg)
  17. Apostolos Christou with a CR of 52.09 (previously 52.26) in the men's 100 backstroke semifinals Obviously broke his own NR as well (previously 52.77) Really hoping he can win a medal here, although last year at the Euros he only won bronze with 52.97 after swimming 52.77 in the semifinals (which would've been enough for gold in the final...)
  18. So Anna Ntountounaki was 9th, missing out on the final by 0.02. At the Tokyo Olympics she was also 9th, missing out on the final by 0.06. She was so close to making the final both times, I really hope she can make it at the next Worlds
  19. Bronze for Evangelia Platanioti in the solo technical routine, our first ever World Championships medal in artistic/synchronized swimming
  20. You said it is not a big time commitment so I can probably do it for sure, my only issue is I do not have a Greek keyboard on my computer so it is annoying to type in Greek letters for me Though I suppose I can do it from my phone which has a Greek keyboard.
  21. So in men's we have Greece and Croatia in the same group at both the Worlds and Europeans this year...
