  1. I am very curious about her if anyone has any info about her background. Her name is Greek (I can't find any other Albanians named Evangelia/Evagjelia, and I know Greeks with the surname Velis/Veli although I guess the name is basic/short enough that the feminine Greek version could also be a surname in other countries? It's not like her surname is Giannopoulou or something ), and she writes a lot in Greek on Instagram comments under her posts and I remember she used to have a lot of photos in Athens (I stalked her profile periodically after I spotted her name at the Rio Olympics ) and I still can't find out what her story is. She always used #albaniangirl or something on Instagram (never claimed to be Greek as far as I know) and all of her old photos were deleted and it looks like she is no longer based in Greece. Wikipedia says she's from Fier which is not part of the Greek minority zone in Albania... For almost 6 years now I have been trying to find info on her background
  2. Some interesting results at the Filothei Women Gala in Athens last night: W 100m: 18 yo Polyniki Emmanouilidou with a new PB of 11.44. She is very close to breaking Thanou's U20 NR of 11.43, and with many races left in the season, I think she'll do it. She already had 11.51 from last month and keeps improving, her best result from 2021 was 11.55, 11.71 from 2020, 11.94 from 2019, so she keeps improving every year. Also I really like our chances to qualify for Paris in the women's 4x100 with Emmanouilidou, Spanoudaki, and Anastasiou (plus we need to find one more to complete the team). W High Jump: Marija Vukovic won with 1.95. The world junior champion from 2010 is finally living up to her potential these last couple seasons. She's been living in Greece for a few years and working with a Greek coach (Ioanna Siomou) and her results have been so good compared to how mediocre she was for many years. Great to see her consistently clearing 1.95/1.96 these days, we love her in Greece like she's one of our own. 16 yo Angelina Topic (Dragutin's daughter) with a new PB of 1.95! Her previous outdoor PB was 1.88 from last year. She clearly likes Greece because her indoor PB is 1.91 this winter in Athens as well. 23 yo Eleftheria Christogeorgou with a big PB of 1.93. Her previous outdoor PB was 1.81 from last year, although she had 1.87 this year indoors. She out of nowhere has seen big improvements the last couple years as she started working with Pomaski (coach of Tentoglou and Papachristou). Before 2021, her PB of 1.75 stood from 2015! Her brother is a goalkeeper for the Greek U21 football national team. 22 yo Despina Maltabe with a PB of 1.87. She won bronze at the European U18s in Tbilisi in 2016 and did nothing since, but good to see her finally making improvements and getting new PBs after 1.83 last year and 1.84 last month. W Pole Vault: Katerina Stefanidi won with 4.64. Far from her best but good for this year considering her SB is 4.65 and WL is only 4.73... 17 yo Alina-Amalia Florou-Dimitriadou with a new PB of 4.09 (she had 4.05 from April). Another one who is improving year after year. Her PB was 3.90 in 2021, 3.50 in 2020, 3.40i in 2019, 3.05 in 2018.
  3. I want Cilic to win it all at this point @dcro I dislike Nadal and Zverev, and Ruud winning a slam would be too random and kind of ridiculous for him to win one before Tsitsipas, Rublev, (or Zverev even though I dislike him). Plus I always had a soft spot for Cilic.
  4. No, it was not https://www.worldathletics.org/records/toplists/throws/javelin-throw/outdoor/women/senior/2022?regionType=world&page=1&bestResultsOnly=true
  5. Orestis Karnezis (football) He was our goalkeeper at the 2014 World Cup. 49 caps with the national team between 2012 and 2018. He is 36 yo and played for clubs like Napoli, Lille, Granada, Watford, Udinese, and Panathinaikos in his career.
  6. 65.40 for 19 yo Elina Tzengko in the women's javelin in Ostrava Her progress kind of stalled since her 63.96 in 2020 as a 17 yo, but this is a big new PB and 2nd in the world this year
  7. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vedat_Albayrak I'm not sure when he started competing for Greece or what his situation is, but born in competing for and then for

  9. It is certainly not a new trend in Greece, it is normal here for hooligans
  10. 5th place for Anastasiadou/Kontou in LW2X at World Cup I. Considering they are 20 and 16 years old, that's a decent result. Will be interesting to see how they progress over the next few years.
  11. Sofia Georgopoulou seems like our last hope to save Greek weightlifting, let's see if she can win here
  12. I can't stand Giorgi but I'm sure @Monzanatoris happy At least now Sabalenka can't pass Sakkari in the rankings, so Maria should stay top 5 unless Pegula makes the final or Fernandez wins the title.
  13. So we have the world number 4 and world number 7 in the women's sabre but could not organise a National Championships this year due to not enough fencers signing up in that category
  14. Probably she will go down to 5 or 6 at most. And she barely has any points to defend until the US Open, so I think she'll be okay. The gap between 2 and 6 is very slim, and Jabeur for example has a lot of points to defend and also Sabalenka, which as of now they won't be able to do at Wimbledon.
  15. How Sakkari and Bencic allowed that girl to win the US Open, I will never understand

  17. Tsitsipas survived a scare, coming back from 0-2 sets down to win in 5 sets
  18. "Greece has some fantastic young athletes who, with the right guidance, have the potential to really establish the country on the world pentathlon circuit." I guess he had to say something like this to be nice, we all know it's not true

  20. 2022 European Rowing U19 Championships: GOLD: Women's single sculls: Aikaterini Gkogkou Women's pair: Elisavet Argyraki, Ioanna Asvesta Women's double sculls: Sofia Dalidou, Styliani Natsioula SILVER: Men's quadruple sculls: Panagiotis Adam, Nikolaos Cholopoulos, Apostolos Lykomitros, Dimitrios Papazoglou
  21. Georgiadou is now ranked 4, equaling Vougiouka's best ever ranking Gkountoura is ranked 7
  22. Another loss for Muguruza. How is she still ranked in the top 10? Just from her WTA Finals points?
  23. JW2X: Gold JW1X: Gold JW2-: Gold JM4x: Silver We really dominated the women's events with one or two people in the boat, and our JM4X did great especially with a 15yo winning a medal
  24. Yeah, that's why I said it was a tough draw. Muchova in R2 is not easy either.
