  1. I understand the points being made - but this shows a tremendous lack of judgement and ignorance, especially considering one of the players doing the gesture, Facundo Conte, PLAYED IN CHINA PROFESSIONALLY FOR 2 years. Is that not sufficient enough contact with another culture to understand that such a gesture is wrong? And if he did understand the connotations of the gesture, he damn sure should be able to explain to his teammates that its not cool, and lead by example. The only thing I can surmise is that he's either a willfully ignorant idiot, a blatant racist, or both. By the way, I am very against much of this political correctness movement. I don't think this is comparable to making fun of the British for drinking tea, as others mentioned. That is a cultural norm - I think you run into trouble when you start poking fun at the way people are biologically created and cannot change.
  2. Meh, that sounds like a lame excuse. How hard is it for people to just not be ignorant fucking assholes.
  3. How about this venue - they've built a state of the art hockey stadium with artificial turf next to what appears to be a crumbling shanty town. Priorities....
  4. Thank you! I figured that, it looked like it kept hitting their leg or something
  5. Am I naive for thinking it would just be ice hockey rules on grass?
  6. Man, I thought field hockey was easy to understand. After watching it, it may be the most complicated sport. There seems to be a foul called every five seconds, and they keep re-taking penalty shots. I don't get it
  7. Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks!
  8. Why doesn't Guatemala get a quota?
  9. Yes! Walker with no faults!
  10. Barring a miracle, Canada has qualified for their first Olympic Games since 2004!
  11. Yeah totally. I meant I'd rather be a generalist in the Olympics. It makes it more exciting. For the Pan Ams, yeah, I'd prefer to do better.
  12. I would rather have it this way, tbh
  13. 10-9 again. Wish there was a stream somewhere
  14. PSA: Canada is losing to fucking Mexico in water polo right now in the 3rd quarter. If we lose this, we're officially out of Olympic qualification
  15. The glass used for squash is thick plexiglass, I believe. It's clear that in this instance, it was a thin layer of glass that you'd find on the entrance of most squash or racquetball courts.
  16. Nvm I found it!
  17. Does anyone know of a stream for the team final?
  18. It's my understanding that baseball is the "de facto" national sport of the US. In fact, very few countries actually have a legislated national sport.
  19. And what exactly is your point?
  20. Yes, of course I think they acknowledge that, and it's the reason why we have seen full NBA participation at past Olympic qualification tournaments (FIBA AmeriCup). I don't think the prospect of qualification is lost on any of them. Keep in mind, all of our best players are trying out for the team. The only absences are justified thus far. Wiggins NBA career has gotten off to a lackluster start, and I'm sure he wants to spend September focusing on the upcoming season. For Thompson, he had an injury-plagued season this year, and likely wants to focus on rehab so that he is in peak shape come the start of the NBA season. I do understand and appreciate their decisions. Also keep in mind that Canada has gone out and gotten this year's NBA Champion head coach to lead the team - I wholeheartedly believe that Basketball Canada is taking the Olympic ramifications of this event very seriously.
  21. Question for the experts: is the judging in the Pan Am Games as corrupt as it is in international competitions, when the Russians are involved? International competitions always seem to have the same 3 medalists predetermined before the competition begins.
  22. So Canada and who else get the quotas?
  23. Aren't Canada in first place after the technical routine?
  24. Is there going to be a stream for the modern pentathlon?
  25. Is there a stream for this anywhere?
