  1. Not the greatest championships for Canada, but that's to be expected given the level of our program. Remember when rowing use to be our best performing sport? Thankfully the other sports have step up.
  2. Crazy victory and back to the Olympics!
  3. Not looking good for us going into the final quarter.
  4. Yeah, once it became apparent that Italy would win the group I knew the United States would take it easy. Still huge credit for taking the opportunity.
  5. Canada playing a bit better now, but Spain isn't done yet.
  6. Big win for Lithuania, now they face Serbia while the United States faces Italy.
  7. Pretty much, the IOC continued adding more events without increase athlete quotas. Based on the Olympics of the 90s we really should be at the 11,500 - 12,000 athlete range.
  8. Shocking results The bigger question is whether New Zealand goes for the singles quota or lets the other Pacific nations fight it out.
  9. Yes so unless Iran makes a comeback the teams which advance to the OQT are plus the 11 teams in the second round which don't get an Olympic quota. are eliminated from Olympic qualification
  10. Correct. They have also advanced to the Olympic Qualification Tournament
  11. Australia left Oceania because it was too weak
  12. I was nervous with Brazil, they are the type of team to catch an overconfident team off-guard. Spain will be tough.
  13. In the event that they are all eliminated then Brazil likely gets the quota. They currently have a +35 differential while Puerto Rico has a +11.
  14. With Canada's loss to Brazil, Group L's final matches are now elimination matches. Here are the permutations for the winners of each match Winner 1. 2. 1. 2. 1. 2. 1. 2.
  15. Brazil is trying their hardest for the upset...
  16. Correct, the Pan American Games have a higher priority than the Nations Cup Final despite the Nations Cup Final occurring first. The quota will be reallocated after the Pan American Games should there be any overlap.
  17. Group J is also simple, the winner of v will finish first while the loser will finish second.
  18. Yup and with looming for second place (unless they throw their final game) things will be a bit tense. Italy/Puerto Rico will occur first so Dominican Republic/Serbia will know if they are playing for first or second in the group.
  19. Group K is simple, the winner of v will finish first while the loser will finish second.
  20. Looks like got the win over that essentially turns the final group game into an elimination match. Here are the permutations and rankings: Winner 1. 2. 1. 2. 1. 2. 1. 2.
  21. They are currently the favourites to win the Nations Cup quota assuming Brazil, Canada and the United States get the job done at the Pan American Games
  22. I think you are glossing over that the lake/water area needs to be at least 2km long. It's one of those sports that is either very cheap or very expensive to host
  23. Pretty much. Since they are so close in goal differential it becomes who can win by more. Egypt gets the slight advantage since their match starts 45 minutes later so they will know how much they need to win by. In the event of a double loss, both nations would need to lose by a lot to not finish top of group assuming China beats Philippines and Mexico beats Jordan to create a three-way tie. I guess Angola still has a small chance, beat South Sudan by 14+ and then hope for New Zealand > Egypt and Jordan > Mexico (or Egypt lose by 19+). Cabo Verde and Cote d'Ivoire would need some crazy results to go their way.
  24. Eights is by far the least diverse Olympic event on the program. Like would any event that struggles to field double digit entrants ever be considered for the Olympics? With that said, the Eights is one of the events I look forward to the most so it will be a very sad day when the IOC finally axes the event.
