Yeah, Canada finishing behind Brazil was expected given the team (even the A team isn't that much better than Brazil IMO). Mexico impressed me a lot more. In 2019 Mexico beat Canada because we kept falling short of gold (we had 35 golds and 65 silvers). This time we step up with a better distribution and they were good to counter.

Great idea, I've always wanted to do some kind of simulation, but never had the time. I suspect that while the big non-European nations will see a drop, it will be more devastating from a percentage point of view to the smaller non-European nations. Europe as a whole will benefit the most. Just be careful to not exclude athletes which didn't participate in qualifiers because they have already qualified via continental qualifies.

Why would they? If the EU was one country they'd just pick the best athletes. The United States does not ensure equal representation across all states, they just pick the best.

I agree, with so few quotas nobody, except the host nation and tripartite invitations should be qualifying for free. I would also apply to it across all continents. Canada got a free quota in sailing because it was the only eligible nation competing.
