  1. Relay Olympic Qualification Preview Men's 4x100m Freestyle Qualified - Qualifying Position - Challengers - The big challenger is Great Britain, unless they DSQ again they will likely move into a qualifying position. South Korea and Singapore will also challenge. While the bottom three are in the most dangerous position, they aren't too far off from the rest of the nations. Men's 4x200m Freestyle Qualified - Qualifying Position - Challengers - Thailand's spot is by far the weakest and is essentially guaranteed to lose it. Their spot will be challenged by Singapore, Poland and Mexico. The other 15 are in a good position to keep their Olympic quota. Men's 4x100m Medley Qualified - Qualifying Position - :FRA Challengers - Hungary and Mexico will be looking to try to squeeze into the top 16. Things are quite competitive with the bottom four being at risk at missing the games. Switzerland isn't competing.
  2. Did you honestly think China would lose to New Zealand? From a fan perspective they are qualified before the tournament began. From a mathematics perspective they are not.
  3. How is the 5th-8th semis decided? Will Canada face Australia or is it shuffled?
  4. isn't technically qualified yet. They could lose to France & Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico could lose to New Zealand. Very unlikely to happen, but China is no more qualified now than it was yesterday.
  5. So basically, if reaches the quarterfinals then the 9th, maybe 10th place nation can qualify to the Olympics. If not, then the quotas will be decided after the playoffs. I really want both and to qualify, but it's looking likely that one will eliminate the other.

  7. There's positives and negatives in finishing 1st or 2nd in the group. Finishing 1st gives us an easier path to the semis which means we'll very likely make the Olympics. On the other hand if we do lose in the quarterfinals then our 5th-8th opponent will likely be the loser of Netherlands/Hungary while if we finish second in the group then our opponent will be Australia. I imagine we'll need a minimum a top 6 finish to qualify to the Olympics. Regardless, we'll probably need to defeat Hungary or Italy to qualify to the Olympics so it'll be either now or later.
  8. Mexico got the Pan American quota while Canada got the reallocated Oceania quota.
  9. brought to a PSO, but ended up losing 5-4. Too bad they were in such a tough group. They would have made the playoffs in any other spot.
  10. Not exactly, the quota was reallocated to the highest ranked nation which has not qualified an athlete. Since it was originally a continental quota it followed those properties.

  12. When was the last time San Marino played against a non-European opponent?
  13. Yeah, even at previous Olympics their qualification document was written in a way that it was technically possible for more than the maximum amount of athletes to qualify. They got burned in 2020 because of COVID. Already qualified athletes/nations did not compete at the World Cup so more athletes than expected qualified which is why only the finalists are now guaranteed to compete. On average around 10/16 athletes compete in both individual and synchro events. France not being a diving nation might decrease the average though.
  14. with a PSO win over , that may be enough to avoid a potential clash with or in the playoff round. There's a good chance the Olympic qualifiers may be decided by the quarterfinalists rather than needing the 9-12 matches.
  15. I wait for the day where FIFA goes crazy and announces a 192 team tournament, held across the world.
  16. In a perfect world it'll be 34 athletes per individual/synchro combo. Now if someone say competes in say the 3m springboard and 10m synchro then it becomes complicated.
  17. Canada is in the hunt, but it won't take much to become the first nation outside qualification. If recover in the technical finals, we may end up regretting losing to at the Pan American Games.
  18. The Italian federation probably forgot the rules have changed since 2020. In a worst case scenario, no one else gets chosen, in the best case, the next 13 qualify (may decrease depending on which nations qualify in synchro)

  20. I wanted to honor the smaller nations with their own athlete of the year awards so I took it upon myself to research the performance of various nations in 2023. Unfortunately due to time constraints, this is a bit late, but I now have all my winners and some honorable mentions. I definitely do not have time to create a write-up for each nation, but if you have a specific one in mind I can do something. First off here is how the awards split by sport: Athletics - 39 Wrestling - 12 Weightlifting - 10 Football - 8 Aquatics - 7 Cycling - 6 Judo - 6 Basketball - 4 Boxing - 4 Canoeing - 4 Karate - 4 Sailing - 4 Archery - 3 Cricket - 3 Rowing - 3 Taekwondo - 3 Table Tennis - 2 Tennis - 2 Wushu - 2 Alpine Skiing - 1 American Football - 1 Badminton - 1 Gymnastics - 1 Netball - 1 Racquetball - 1 Rugby - 1 Shooting - 1 Surfing - 1 Triathlon - 1 Total - 136 Unsurprisingly, athletics has a massive 39 winners, almost 29% of all nations I looked at. That's what happens in a sport with a massive worldwide participation. Wrestling and weightlifting break double digits while football leads the team sports. Only one winter sport (alpine skiing) is represented among the winners while six non-Olympic sports are represented with karate, cricket and wushu having multiple winners. Ten sports that will be held at the 2024 Olympics (dancesport, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, golf, handball, modern pentathlon, roller sports, sport climbing and volleyball) did not have a single winner. I'll probably split the winners across three posts over the following days. I look forward to the discussion of being wrong for selecting certain athletes .
  21. Diving is a bit of a mess until we know who's selected in the synchro events (let's ignore when an athlete competes in both 3m & 10m events). For now, whoever makes the final will get a quota to compete at the Olympics. Anyone else will have to wait.
